Had a computer hiatus for about a week, the old one melted down. But the new one sure is nice! Took a while to catch up, so congrats to all the hatching, sorry for the lost birds, hope everyone gets well quickly, and that the gardens are all frost-free. Ours is about 1/3 done. The DNR is a manager, not an owner, but they don't seem to see the difference. Just my 2 pennies. Jim, had to laugh at the green light story!

Yesterday I hatched 5 Barred Holland chicks (and one seriously cute EE).

The Hollands are the most critically endangered American breed, I've been wanting to acquire them for a while. Almost no one has any! They are similar to Barred Rocks, but they lay a white egg. THere is a white counterpart, thought to be extinct. Hope they can be brought back from the brink.

Oh geez we have Walker fans on here ?

Decided today was a good day to take pictures. Some of my chicks are coming out beautifully.
Here's my EE. I'm starting to think it's a roo. It used to be white, now it's got random dark feathers, and is starting to look lavender. He's tailless and has a beard. Funky looking little guy. Also in the pic are 'his' two silkie mix hens.

This is the silkie mix with the 'mohawk' I posted a week or so ago, if any of you remember. She's turning out stunning

And this is my frizzle, He's so cute I think I might start a frizzle breeding project, though the first problem is finding other chickens like him xD

And last but not least, these are my SLW pullets. I'm really excited for their first eggs Their colors are starting to come out. Starting to think that they will be my sister's show project

And all pics were taken within their pen, which is overrun with weeds. I plan on getting some more chicks(Just standard layers, hopefully EE) to keep the grass down. Now it's just a matter of finding someone who doesn't want $5 per chick, because I'm stingy xD. Hope you enjoyed my dearies, also, what do you think about the EE? Is it a roo?

Cute chickies !! My guess is the EE is a roo just by the size of the comb at that age. And I hate to say but I think the silkie mix in the next picture is a roo too, just by the swept back head feathers. Could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time. Here's hoping for a pullet if that's what you're aiming for !!

Hi all, those two ladies came back and bought dog #2 this morning.. only 3 left,, I want to keep one, but we will see..

someone said something about an Elcho swap ? I went back but couldn't find it again.. anyhoo. Is that the swap at Wave's ? I made it there for the last two years.. I would like to make it again this year, but IDK right now.. she still has one of my trailers that she borrowed.. I should go , at least just to get the trailer.. I have a bunch of guinea keets that I could drag along, I guess..

Marlene called me this AM<,.. she has about 50 guinea eggs that her hens won't sit on. she wanted to drop them off next Wednesday, but I would rather get them while they are fresher..

she sold 13 of my chicks,, has 5 left.. said that she wanted to keep the 5 and give me the money for the 13.. I told her OK, but she should keep $1 for each chick she sold, too.. She said no, but I will convince her to..

I have the ground cover cloth and a barrel of water ready to go to the garden as soon as Annie gets home..

I planted a pound of pea seeds yesterday.. I still have lots of room left for something else.. can't think of what to plant.. I have way too much of everything planted already..

I fixed the fence and turned 100 junior sized chicks loose.. Next week I am going to turn another 100 loose back there as soon as they won't fit through the chain link fence holes.. Might have to hold a few guinea keets back.. I am going to let the 5 quails loose back there, I think they will stick around.. we will see..

I was talking about the one that's always held on Father's Day weekend on Sunset just east of Elcho. Never been there yet, my neighbor told me about it. She went last year and foolishly bought a half grown billy she now calls Trouble (for obvious reasons)

She also got the most beautiful Silver Lakenvelder roo!

Evening all!!
Well, mowed the lawn (Yeah....) picked up fallen branches and such to mow the lawn, finished my tomato project (took pics too!), went to the dump, DH took me to lunch at Fuddruckers, got meal worms and cat food at Petco. Oh and got a new betta fish. Hopefully BTB won't slay this one like he did the last one. Weeded a little, and filled the bird feeders.
So that was my day! LOL!! It feels like I did so much more in a weird way.

Well I should go grab the camera so I can post my pics!!!

Afternoon all. Well we had a nice boring day. I had a lady that was suppose to come at 9am to buy 2 black silkies from me but she never showed. I just talked to her last night and she said she would be here, but today she never called, answered her phone, or emailed me. So of course we sat at home all day. So this morning we decided to butcher one of our roosters. It wasn't as bad as I thought, heck after reading so many tramatizing stories in the other threads I thought it was going to be bad, but nope. The bad part was plucking, its kinda a pita . I think I may build a homemade plucker for the drill. I seen a youtube video on how to make one and it looked simple enough. So tonight for dinner I made "Dinner" lol ( the roosters name was Dinner), I oven roasted him with herb butter slathered all over it. Boy was it good, he was the very first fresh chicken I have ever eaten or cooked. I may actually start liking breast meat, I hate store bought breast meat its so dry. The kids thought it was cool we were eating our own chicken.
Well I guess thats about it. I'm just sitting here eating a popsicle and DH is loading the truck for fishing tomorrow. I hope everyone has a good night.
