Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All
Sorry, not going to reply to much... too tired.

TO...I think (can't say for sure, crs)Jasmine and Turk did come from the same place, maybe their 1/2 siblings.

Well, my chickens are falling apart! Tiny's croup still has issues. I have one with wry neck. Roadrunner has a sprained leg, and now Rose I think dislocated a leg!

I have read, and I think I can get in back ok, we'll see.

I think since I don't plan on breeding anymore this year I'm going to butcher the roo I've been holding 'till the plucker was done. But the roos I'm keeping in the bachelor pen, and give the girls a rest. I need more room!!!

Night all.

Kristi - grave vines sound awesome. I didnt even think they grew up here. My friend as a kid had them in their yard and her dad made wine out of them.

Twizz - I hope your silkie comes out of hiding. Maybe it just found a safe place to roost.

BL4 - cute cute babies, I'm gonna have to get creative with pics when my new babies come tomorrow.

MX -- lol Nope haven't read Shade of Grey yet, BUT I do have it on reserve at the library. Right now I am reading the Dark Monk by Oliver Potsch, I receive it and The Hangman's Daughter for free from bzzagent.com for a campaing I'm doing right now. I just started reading it yestarday and so far so good.

LCBCHX - Welcome to BYC :)

jim - I am seriously in Aw at the number of chicks you hatch !

FT- thanks horrible about the horse. I hope he find a good home. My DD wants a horse so bad but sadly we dont have the land for it or the stable :(

Good morning everyone. I had a productive day yestarday, I cleaned all day lol. Well my replacement chicks should be here tomorrow unless I get a surprise call this morning. Shifu is still in the house in the brooder so sadly she's gonna have to just accept going out to the coop in the dog crate ( its an extra large one). She's just way to big to share the brooder plus she'll make a huge mess of things with the chick waterer. Oh made a waterer for Shifu out of a gallon jug and it works great. She hasnt soaked the bedding sink I put it in her cage, now she just poops it up like crazy lol. The chicks are 15 weeks old now, and the ducks range from 14, 13, 11 and 6 weeks old. One of the Mallard drakes is getting his green head and it look cool. I need to get outside and take my weekly pics. Well thats about it here. I hope everyone has a great day.

Morning all!
Just catching up before I get going!

FT-That poor horse! I hope some one takes him. Seeing how he is a crypt orchid, the only option is surgery to geld him, so I'm not sure what the Amish will do. That is expensive because the surgery for it is a "real surgery". Not like gelding in the field. He has to go to the hospital and they do the surgery on the table. Also, depending on where that testicle is he may always be a crypt orchid. We had a case at out vet clinic like that. The horse ultimately died of colic and for insurance purposes they had to so a necropsy. Turns out they found the other testicle----right against his back bone. BTW, $600 or so for the surgery is not bad...our small animal clinic charges that much for crypt orchids in dogs and cats. Horses were in the thousands.. That is probably reason he was dumped. The AQHA does not allow a crypt orchid studs foals to be registered with the AQHA. At least they used to not allow it. It's been 8 years or so since I've had a registered QH!!
Your wallet story renewed my faith in people! It was nice that some one found it and called your bank and returned his wallet.

Kristi-That is interesting about the raspberry trellises. Did you happen to notice if the bushes sent out runners using this method?

Twiz-Sorry to heard about your silkie

Marg-Thanks for posting the heads up on the Amazon book club! I've got it on my Wishlist. Now I just have to remember to get it on that day!!! BTB. How to decode a cat? LOL!!! That is code for Bubba The Barbarian. Bubba is a kitten the DH brought home form a chicken swap. A defective barn cat kitten. His name took a while to find and is actually Barnabus. Bubba is short for Barnabus. DrH started to call him The Barbarian after many of my rants about Bubba's worthlessness and general evilness. DrH then started to use BTB in some of his reply's so BTB is what he is here on the forum. I will have to post a current pic of the Wild One. He is getting rather handseme..in an Ebil way....!!! LOL!

BL4- George T?!!-LOL That is funny! I can here him saying that about that book!!! Love the pic btw!!

Well, best get gone! I have to go to TSC in Delevan and do laundry....

That sounds interesting. Care to share how you made a less messy duck waterer?

Well I had 5 goose eggs that I had shipped and not one developed. There there was a mystery goose egg. Can be pure of several different breeds or a combo of them. Well that one is developing. Just what I need another mutt goose !!
I have lavender Orps in the bator as well as lavender and lavender split ameraucana's. Doing well. Some of my eggs go into lockdown later today !!

MLH, yes isn't that refreshing to actually have someone be that honest and go out of their way to cancel our card. Wish they would have waited until after dinner though !!! LOL
Never would have thought about dropping a wallet in the mail box. I guess only in a small town would the PO just hand it to their carrier and they would deliver, no charge !!! LOL
On one had there is an honest good humane being doing that good deed, dumping the wallet in the PO box and on the other hand a inhumane person dumping a horse in the middle of a forest !!! I should take pictures of the poor guy. Sure wish it wouldn't cost that much to get him gelded. I'd take him but then again if he wasn't gelded I highly doubt he is broke either. And of course he is very calm now. Get some good nutritrition in him and I'll bet he perks up !!! Who know's whant kind of emotional scars he has. Or he could be the best horse around.

Jim are you up yet???? I Pm'd you !!! When is that swap ???

PS Hey everyone, don't forget to go out and VOTE today. The RIGHT way !!!! LOL

I got that postcard in the mail of all the people in the area that voted in the last two elections. My name was on the top of the list. Only recognized one other person........... Come on people it's your duty !!!!!

Not sure I liked my name and address sent to all of the surrounding neighbors though but I guess they could just go on line or drive past my mailbox and get my name. It was just weird seeing it though.

Now I need to get a postcard like that from PCH !! LOL

MLH- looks like only certain types produce suckers but the more I am reading, it really is recommended to trellis raspberries.. I never knew. Always saw a crazy patch of them tossed in ( which iw what I have with my current patch. I need to do this now. I have three large buckets full of plants. but they are old tree buckets so holes in bottom so need to get them planted so they can retain some water in those roots! May have to plant them like I want to trellis them and come back with a trellis later. Interesting idea:

Apyl- there is a great winery called Wollershime over by Heather... they grow many varieties of grapes there and make awesome wine. We grow ours as table grapes for now. I have 3 different varieties. My kids were not big fans because they had more tanins in them than grocery grapes. But if we dont eat them all, the chickens will so it is still a win win. They dont need alot of care and just grow.

Voted on friday absentee because I knew I would be working today. Glad it is over as I am sure polls will be a mad house today.

We have further photo proof that it is a coon going after the feeders. Knocks one down each night. He is not huge so maybe younger. Put the camer on the coop last night to see if he is checking them out. Will look at pics tonight.
What are your thoughts. If we take the bird feeders down and away at night will he go away or look for another close food source like chickens or will he leave us alone.

hmmmm Lost my posting...AGAIN

Graduation & party went well :)

Opinions? Nature Made "Nutrena" feed versus FF's "Sprout"? I usually feed sprout and they do well with it. However I saw this nutrena and its organic with added pribiotics....for not much more...so I bought a bag of this to try as well. Would like input from others that have tried these???

MyPetChicken: Anyone else order from them this year? I am expecting 8 newbies between today and Thursday and wondering how quickly they usually arrive? (I am working from home today and took Wed thru Fri off to enjoy them). Do they usually arrive ok or are they usually a lil rough from the traveling?

That sounds interesting. Care to share how you made a less messy duck waterer?
I just took a 1 gallon sweat tea jug and cut a hole in it big enough for Shifu to get her head in . Sure she dribbles right in front of the container but before she was soaking the entire brooder before the day was up.

Morning...got two pages going...
Welcome, I am in Soup Town and DAS is from Solon Area...

Adorable ducklings BL4! Did you put superglue on their feet to keep them in place? THe only thing squirmier than a chick is a duckling! Good job! Hey if you want to push yourself you should try the PX90 workout that my fam is doing! (not me) They work out with it every day and come home really sweaty! I have noticed that DH's belly is shrinking! He also said that he could do about two push-ups when they started 3 weeks ago and last night he did 15! So I guess it is working...I find working out in a gym totally boring...I'd rather unload hay or dig ditches! At least you are outside developing muscles that you really NEED!

Bigfam I love those volunteer plants too! Since I had all heritage breed tomatoes last year I am hoping for a few of them to volunteer this year. Hey Dan, if they are heritage breeds that means that they breed true right? IN the past I have had many volunteer tomato plants and they all seem to be slightly large than cherry sized. TO big to pop in your mouth and kinda small to skin and can! The plants always seen to do real well though...that is the ONLY way I can grow them from seed. I have absolutely no luck in a greenhouse like setting. Didnt stop me from taking a real close look at the greenhouses when I was at F&F the other day though...

Good work on the brooder Jim...and now you have gotten me hungry for potato pancakes! Guess we will be having some with dinner tonight! YOur brooder sounds like the one that my friends' Hubby made. A whole bunch of switches and wires! I bet those pups are adorable running about the place! How many are you keeping?

Frenchie you sure do have some adventures! It makes me afraid for that horse to have the Amish Geld him though...I wouldnt think that it would cost THAT much for a vet to do it. When doing horses they have to open the body cavity a bit anyhow...not like dogs and cats. I suppose they would determine the price on how long they had to search for the missing part! When my friend and I went down to Natchez Trace Forest in TN they actually counted the horses you went in with! Never checked traveling papers or health records...they just wanted to make sure you went out with the same number you came in with. They probably wouldnt have had a problem going out with MORE than you came with either! I guess there had been so many that were just turned loose in the forest that they had to clamp down on it! I think some people figure that if you can dump a cat or dog why not a horse? Makes me sick!
THen there are the ones that take them fully tacked right out of the park! Anothe person I just met that has horses lost hers this way. You might remember it in the news. THe horse was tied at a bar with other ones while they were having lunch (this is near Palmyra Horsemen's Park) It got loose and they chased it on horseback but it disappeared. Had all the tack on it! THe horse was never found. SUch a shame, but somebody popped that one right in their trailer and took the back roads into another state I suspect.

Sure makes for a long post when you open two windows! I had a bit of time to kill...well, not really! Anyhow, I better get moving and get something done. THinking about putting the sprinkler on the garden tonight--I am getting tired of watering too!
I am on the little computer again...DH got my new hard drive in OK but found that the USB ports wer not working when he was trying to recover the information from my dead hard drive. Sheesh...that is where I have all my bill reminders, passwords and calendar for upcoming stuff! I think I will go back to my daytimer...at least it only gets misplaced occasionally!

Have a great day! TErri O
