Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh my lord!!! Can someone please explain to me what on earth could unlatch the door on my chicken coop, get in, and kill EVERY SINGLE ONE of my older chickens? All I have left now are my chicks in the brooder and the goslings! I mean honestly!!! I don't understand what is going on! I double checked that it was shut and the doors were latched last night, because after my cat got my sizzle, I have been really careful to keep them shut in my coop every night. I go down to feed them, and the door is unlatched and there is a very gory, bloody scene before my eyes. I mean feathers everywhere, dead babies. Maybe this is like a subtle hint that the whole chicken thing isn't for me...

Nice to hear all the news and pictures.

I am so glad Bob is recuperating!

Twizz.... I think you need a padlocked door. I wonder if coons figured out your latches.

If I had chickens I would offer you some. All I have are the Calls.

Twizzle... The coons DO latches!!! I have heard others had to padlock because of this! I'm so very sorry! Honestly, if you want to pm me for some birds, please do! The nice thing about chicken math is being able to share in the face of tragedy. I am also not horribly far from you.

YES !!!! Supposedly the horse was removed yesterday. Not sure if it was by the Humane Society, Police or owner (don't think so)
Email me if you would like to see a video of the horse on Sunday !!!! It was reported Sunday by an unknown source ................. ?????????????????

I always wonder what my purpose is here on earth...... Might just have figured it out !!!! Heartbreaking for sure. I have a call into the Sheriffs office to see if I can adopt the horse !!

I'm sure the whole thing isn't over but one step at a time.

PS Please don't hit Quote, as I will be deleting this after you all have a chance to read the update.

Oh and btw the donkey petition was a success. No donkeys were at the Frontier Days in Texas. !!!! Thanks again for signing.

one for Bob Too !!!

Alright so apparently my house has a trap for the entire house. Not just one for each fixture but for the entire house!!! And all that stuff that got pushed up during the flood got stuck in my trap. The Roto Rooter guy was out here this morning and 10 minutes after he got in the house he was in his van driving away with $95 in his pocket. Good thing insurance is covering this. I would have been angry otherwise. He took a small plunger on a 6' pole and plunged out my trap with one foul push. My sump and drains cleared quick after that.

The chickens continue to do good and have survived the flood waters. My meaties are eating me out of house and home but getting big. I have 12 eggs set in the bator and need to get 3 more for my broody. We are splitting wood at church this week and mowing as well. Everything is growing big right now. Time to stake tomatoes and other stuff.

I think that is about it for now,
Noah aka KEN

Good news about the horse!!!

Twizzle: So sorry to hear about your chickens!!

Wondering if anyone can interpret the following for me:

Took a sample of chicken droppings from 5-6 chickens in to the vet for a parasite test ($17 for inquirying minds) as some of my chicks are thin and the adults arent as plump as usual.
The found the following on the slide:
3-4 strongyle (SP?) eggs (Similair to hook worm?) Said its not round worms. Canthis transfer to humans?
8-10 Cocci eggs (Didnt know they were eggs?)

Vet said that neither are a huge concern unless they are showing signs of illness. Since their is weight loss in the chicks...she said I should probably treat for cocci. The worms she said that was a low count and that you will always have some (that its good to keep the gut healthy?)....but that I may want to treat this fall during moulting time.

With that said-any opinions? And sounds like I need to then toss the eggs for 8 weeks when treating for cocci? I have Sulmet on hand...I know everyone recommends Corrid...do I need to go buy Corrid or jsut use the Sulmet I have?

I wanted to add-My understanding is that many adults carry a small amount of cocci and thats why Im trying to figure out if its possible the sample mizture I gave her was even from the chicks or the adults? So want to establish what is "normal" amounts to show in a test?

How did they get in? The "people" door or the pop hole?

Now the rest of the week is finally supposed to be dry but really hot and sticky so I think we are going to be sorry for playing hooky.

Still looking for anyone who knows anyone willing to part with a pullet/hen Wyandotte or Buckeye (gave up on the Chanteclere) that is up here anywhere.
