Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Also, anyone here good with birds of prey in southern wisconsin? I have a white bird that looks a lot like a hawk, but it is HUGE. At first we thought it was a snowy owl, but it's out during the day a lot, and seeing it closely it isn't an owl. It looks more like a hawk or eagle. I have a picture that probably won't do much, but I couldn't get close enough to get a good picture. He's been flying around our property for years and we still haven't a clue what it is. Here's a picture of him with a crow:

He is in the sky chasing a crow. Any ideas?

I love my goats, but they're p!ssing me off. The little shmitts keep going in the coop and eating all the chicken feed!!! I wondered why they were starting to look a little thick in the middle. Problem is, they are free to roam, and so are the chickens during the day. If I close the door to the run, the chickens can't free range. If I leave it open, the eff!ng goats are in there eating the feed. Stupid things!!!!!
I have 6 goats and 3 pot bellys that do the same thing !!!! I keep telling dh to figure out some type of bars or something to keep them from getting in the coop. Problem is we have 1 coop, 3 camper coops and the converted green house coop. Just one more thing to put on the Honey Dew List !!!

Gonna need feed today or tomorrow. Will make a trip to Embarass. DH gets his last check from work for only 1 week today. He does NOT qualify for Unemployment. He started the job late last September. Not enough quarters. Hopefully he won't be off too long !!!! Come on gas prices. Go up........... ok just a little !! lol

Sorry I hadn't been on in a couple days. It's been fairly busy around here.

So last night I got home at like 10 P.M. and what did I see? Five coons looking back at me as they sat on top of my gosling's cage. Four of them were babies, and mom ran as soon as she saw headlights, but the babies were so afraid that they didn't move. We got them out of the garage and shut the garage. I should have shot them but I just couldn't. I figure that if the garage is shut up every night, and after I padlock my coop and enclose my run, the worse they can do is get in the garbage.

Twizz, I wonder if your bird is an albino.

http://www.diversityinutah.com/albino1.html

I am not aware of any white birds of prey; that is completely white, that would be found here in WI. Even the rogue bird from the arctic would have some kind of black marking on it.

Perhaps the DNR would like to attempt to identify your bird, it would be cool to have an albino hawk/eagle in your backyard!

Holy Hades, Batman. It is evil stinkin' HOT out there! I just got back in from ice run #3 for the critters.
I was so mild mannered at the Bash even. You should see me wound up! And after a cocktail or two. I am pretty sure I'm having the southern get together here so I can be loud and drink a few... No driving!

Mild mannered???? Wound up is worse? Hmmm........ I wonder if anyone will even show up?

Thanks for the info, Jim. The JB Weld doesn't have anything toxic that can leach out into the waterer, I take it? I'm glad your peahen is better.
"power washed the deck and everything on it..."

Reminds me of that commercial "you're going to wash the deck". "Not wash: power wash". I'm sure that is exactly what happened & you smiled the whole time doing it. You naughty boy, you.

Cind, I know. We took pics from that storm too but they just didn't do it justice. We couldn't get our garage door opened for 2 days. Not that DH would have wanted to get his truck out to go to work......

cs, so glad to hear your cat is home. Now to just get Coal to do the same.

Vicki, Tractor Supply carries DE, if you have one of those near you?

Twiz, that sounds like a very good plan for your coons. It has been working for me for quite a few years now. If you have birdfeeders, bring those in at night too.

Ok, time to go force myself to get something accomplished today. Stay cool & safe, everyone!

Praying for the return of Coal!

I've got the clothes, cooler, crafts, soccer equipment, and medicine packed up. Tomorrow I'll pack the personal items that I'll need in the mornings. I've printed off directions and made travel arrangements. DH is doing a safety check on the car tonight.

Oh its hot out!

Oh Robin, Robin, Robin... You know I was sweet to you at the Bash. I was charming and kind to Bigz and Jim and Doc and Tom and Terri, and many others. I was too occupied with hubby and kids to be very obnoxious. :D

And CC you might not be invited to the BYC Fall Fun Fest if you're gonna be a pain in my @ss... OH WAIT... Too late! LOLOLOLOLOL!! :p :p

I'm off to put a Pickle to nap and deliver ice bottles to birds. And... I got an email from Gabbard farms saying 25% off their hatching eggs. Uummm, I was going to put the incubator away as soon as these ducks hatch... But...

thank you CC but there is no Tractor Supply anywhere near me

HOWEVER, I checked out the feed mill in Rhinelander and they had it! I am sure it is probably cheaper elsewhere but at $21.95 for 40 lbs. that was a way better price than the $10.95 for 6 lbs. at the Country Store in Antigo.

We had cloud cover for most of the day so the temps were actually better so far today than yesterday. a very nice surprise!

BL4~that sure sounds like you have an albino, cool

snowy owls are daylight hunters by the way. Since they spend most of the time waaaaaaay up north, they have to be. Only come down out of Canada on really hard winters.

I had a cochin hen on 6 eggs. They hatched over a 3 day period. The last one hatched yesterday. I found it today with the skin missing on the back of its head, its eyes swollen and I'm pretyy sure the eyeballs pecked out and the ears all bloody. I'm not sure if the hen or chicks did this but he was under the hen when I went out there this morning so it's not like she's rejecting him. I have him in the incubator with neosporin on the head and terramycin in the eyes. We'll see if the poor thing recovers.
