Unkadan~ THANK YOU! I contacted sunnyside to find out what they were but they wouldn't tell meHeather, good thing you're not milking goats,,,,,(no comment on that AC in the coop, but can I crash there if I do a road trip this summer?)
vicki, I have some of the BSL's from Sunnyside, the cross is RIR X Barred Rock,,,,I have a couple that have indicated the broody behavior but if I move them a couple of times they have quit,,,,it's pretty much bred out of them I think. I have 3 hens that have been broody for weeks now,,,,,I plan to move them into a cage off the ground, a friend told me this seems to work for him,,,mentioned they can't keep the temp up underneath,,,don't know until I try it
OK,,,a question for you experienced folks. I have a Black Copper Marans pullet (18wks) that has an eye problem. Just started today, one eye was shut, I caught her and flushed it really well with Saline. A small amount of yellow discharge had crusted the outside lid closed. After getting this washed off and continued flushing the eye was almost normal. Within an hour it was again shut. I would guess it is an injury, scratch, scape deal,,,,,suggestions as to what to use after flushing tomorrow? She was calm and relaxed during and after the treatment, which is pretty cool since I really don't handle these birds,,,,,,
ok,,,,,,,long hot day,,, a shower is next on my list (then ICE CREAM!)

Now I feel REALLY dumb. Didn't spot a broody hen right off, DUH.

Oh, wait, air-conditioned coop? Ok, now I don't feel quite so crazy
