Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Oh wow- at least for now I know I would not be able to stomach seeing a trapped rat, much less drowning it.

I will be careful though if we see a dead one to get rid of it before the dog does

interesting day going here,,,heard a hen in the barn, the barn=storage here, chased the hen out and heard some critters,,,found 2 young raccoons had trashed one whole room of "storage" kinda like a Disney movie (gone wrong) those 2 will not have another chance at destroying property or chickens

THEN, I had a plumber working on an outside faucet at a property I manage,,,he shows up here "we gotta problem",,,,hornet nest in the wall at the entrance where the faucet is,,,,,,,,,,my comment,,,no,,,,"you gotta problem" handed him a can of XXX hornet spray and wished him luck,,,,,

Jim the flowers you are seeing,, are they females? if so and you trim the vines no squash for you,,,can you bend the vines away from the cukes?

Right, squash produce male and female flowers. The female ones will have little round stem swellings at the base of the flower. I read somewhere that the plant makes male flowers first, and then male and female blossoms a little later. Can you wait a little bit to make sure you have some fruits developing then trim? I believe limiting the plant to a few fruits will make those fruits spectacular.

Stella laid her 1st egg today!!!!! Yes Stella is my loud mouth. Now I hope that she quiets down ALOT!

There was actually a shell-less egg in the nest box, but I found the shell-on egg in the run. I did clean up the nest box however. I hope she continues to lay in there and not in the run.

YEAH!!!!! I'm so happy.

Well, the forecast is giving us some hope of rain.... but I'm not holding my breath. I have seen fronts split and go right around us! And, we are the north edge of it. Should be good for some of you!

Well the storm of all storms seems to be hitting my house right now. Barely had enough time to get everyone inside! Hope some of you other BYCers get hit too! As morbid as that sounds xD

That is so odd! There are blue sunny skies here and I just heard the radio emergency noise and they broke in to tell about storms in Green, Iowa, Salk and Rock Counties. Kind of a slow moving one though. Doubt we will get anything here...I am going to go and check the radar to see where it is.

The horse trim was uneventful. All the horses stood good as gold for the farrier. I was really glad cause they have been known to be buttheads with our other one and this was this man's first time here. Nice that they were easy on him...so I am poor once again! Good thing I get a check from a big client tomorrow (I hope) It will almost cover the bill...then I am picking up hay tomorrow....never ends! At least I found out that our taxes arent due until the end of the MOnth! I have to go there cause I lost the bill--AGAIN! Last year I had to go in with a partially chewed one--how embarrassing!

Suppose I should start thinking about making some dinner....laters! Terri O

Busy Day On the Hill Today..... sure hope the OM comes through this ordeal with flying colors of joy and recovery frenchie! He's in my prayers for sure, with nothing but the Best sent his way.

Must of been a good day for canning Doc. Me and suzie did a Gallon of wedgers, and another half gallon of slicers for the burgers...seem to missing some of the half gallon jugs....what the heck...folks suppose to bring em back.

Picked our first maters today...beautiful skin...no cracks or faults, and the plants are full of bushels of good ones...the first home grown one of the year tastes so much better than the store stuff, that we've been eatin.

Yep, the beans are lookin good too. The cranberry beans should be heavy by the time they go dry.

Kinda usual that the young hens coop has eggs everyday, and the older hens are still in molt and not laying at the present time. They will when the feathers fill back in.....some look pretty shabby right now. Early for them this year.

Glad you found some peeps judge...that didn't take long, eh! If you have one rat...you have many more to rid of...just sayin.

Amy that's dang funny...hope it's only a temporary hastle and fist fight.... LOL.

I'll remind you about the buckets Cind...elephants never forget....if that made sence.

WET evening all!! Yep! I said Wet!!! WE got us some rain!!! Whoo Whoo!!!
Dh had to go over yonder into Milton to the plant to pick up some dog food for a customer. We were joking that the only time it will rain was when he was loading it and the rain will stop just as soon as he is done. Well, that joke came true! It rained and I mean poured the whole time he and the plant guy were loading the dog food and then as soon as we pulled out of the parking lot atthe plant it stopped. Of course the side of Milton we were on it rained . When we got to the other side to catch a bite of dinner it was bone dry. We got home and it was spitting here. I jumped from the car to go get Ben and bring him in and it was like a sauna!! Then as soon as I got him in his carrier it started to rain. The sky is rumbling right now.

Judge- Feel free to call me MLH. Everyone here does!

I have a real name but it's the same as BigFam's and when people type Heather I have to read twice before I realize it's not me they are talking to!! LOL!! I have a very complicated Blueberry jam recipe. Have you pen and paper all ready? Here it goes.
1) Run to the store and get a bunch of boxes of Sure-Jell pectin for jam making. I use the yellow full sugar recipe box and not the pink low sugar one.
2) Open the box and read the directions for Blueberry Jam making. If for some odd reason it's not on the directional sheet let me know.
3) Make the jam. I use a blender on pulse to chop up the fruit. I'm lazy that way and plus my potato masher sucks....
4)Enjoy the jam!!!

I used store bough blueberries since they were on sale and I wanted to try a different type of jam this year. Last year I made peach and strawberry. This year I've made peach and blueberry. I'm toying with making some raspberry jelly this year but we'll see how much room I have to store it all.

CS-Yeah! You got and egg!!!!!!!

Well as promised here is a pic of Ben. The last y'all saw him he was this:

That pic was taken after his bath to get all the sticky crud off of his fluffy self!
So now here is Ben as of this afternoon:

Here is another pic. This is a really suckie picture of him since it shows a spot where his hackle feathers are coming in, but I have to post it because it's hilarious and mainly because of the chicken face in front of the camera shot. That face belongs to Lavender. The Blue Andalusian I got from H&R. She is very "helpful" in all things and like to pick at my jeans. The black bird behind Ben is the other Blue Andie I got from H&R.
