Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Amy- I hear you! After all my issues, and 4 trapped coons, it actually quieted down. But if I as much as smell a coon near my coop again, I'm going to start making hats!

One of my goslings chased my cat today. It was the funniest thing. He was drinking out of their water but within seconds he was nowhere in sight

Just got done putting a nice big buff roast in the crock pot. Stood there and thought, how cool not one store bought item in it. Then remembered the pepper. And the garlic. Garlic on the list for the fall! I go through enough to warrant it's space, Hmm maybe a raised box like Jim made. Thanks for the tips on washing the carrots! I pulled the picinic table up to where the hose reaches and pull a bunch out of the pail and hose em off the best I can but still have to do the scrubbing with a brush. If they were all uniform in size and shape a scrubber would be easy to make. Ah the perfect carrot. Donny stopped over this AM and gave me a confermation on the future dead cow. He finishes some out for a mutual friends kids 4H projects. He took them to weigh them Sat. and one was 1420# the other is 1440# with a month to go for the fair. 1500# is max weight the smaller one might just make it but the heavier one won't. So the BFF and we will be eatin some prime stuff this coming year. He quoted me the same price as the last 3 years and I blew up! Screamed at him that I knew he was losing money and has been for the last few years with the price of grain/hay. Was just thinkin I'll try and throw an extra hundy in the pile and see if he notices. We go through this every stinkin year and it really irritates me that he does this. Friendship is one thing but it shouldn't come out of your pocket.

Amy~that's horrible! I have been blessed to not have been hit (so far). Might be because I haven't had my girls that long but then again we haven't had any coon trouble since we got the two that raided my sweetcorn several years ago. We are mostly pines on the high ground and spruce swamp in the back 40 so I guess we aren't their favorite habitat. That might change tho because our "potato" farmer at the beginning of our road has decided to do almost all his fields in corn this year (rotated other crops but never did corn before). Wow! talk about making a good call, hey?
Ok, just made up the guest bed now my arm REALLY hurts again so back to my book!

Good afternoon!
Thanks Bigfam...my lunch was great until I started reading and got to see your poor little chicken! When I worked at a petshop we had a small parrot that had that. IT was an actual condition with parrots (dont know about chickens) but whoever said something with the feather follicle was right on. I too, would lance it and clean it out. put some triple antibiotic on the area and she should be good to go! They heal pretty fast!
Thanks for the pickle recipe again...I know I have it--somewhere! DrH--I thought you said you dont process? That is why I thought mine were soft this year...cause I did process. I am going to try the ice cream pail ice trick though...that might be the problem--never have enough ice to keep them that cold for that long...
Yeah Amy..they tend to come back dont they? (dam^ coons!) My traps are out every night. Kind of at the edge of the chicken yard so hopefully I can get them before they get too close! Poultry netting is good for keeping chickens in or out...not such a good idea for PROTECTING them though! Good luck!

In fox hunting news...it was raining buckets this morning so I did not get up...besides I was having a really cool house dream...love those! ANyone else hear the THUNDER at about 3:20AM! HOLY SH!T! It sounded like a sonic boom. I have never heard such a loud blast in my life! DH, DD and myself were all up. I went outside to get some feed wheeeled into the barn (it was clear when I went to bed) THe birds in the barn were freaked...I thought there must be a predator in there...nope. Then as I thought about it probably none of those birds had ever heard thunder before! I gave them some corn and they quieted down...
So I stripped the bed this morning cause it looked to be kind of sunny and clear...by the time I had the sheets in the washer it was clouded up and looked like rain. I put the hanging plants in the yard and fed everyone...decided to eat lunch and now the sun looks like it wants to come out! THis weather is goofy for sure! I guess I should go and hang the sheets...then it will rain some more for sure!

OK, lunch hour is done...I wish the guy coming for pullets would get here...I really need to run some errands today! Later! Terri O

OK--the guy came for the pullets and bought 1 Aussie, 1 "Mossy" and my SLW Hen. I didnt really want to sell her cause she was one that followed me around but he wanted something already laying and a good home for her is nice...I guess....he has 2 little kids that will love them up for sure!

Going on my errands now...later all! Terri O

Good evening everyone. I wish the rain would decide what it wants to do, its been spitting here on and off. I took a walk around the property tonight and found a bunch of blackberries coming back to life. So I picked a peanut butter jar full and gave them to the chickens and ducks. Boy they liked that, Po my pekin duck was right up next to me like I was her best friend lol. Normally she doesnt get within arms reach. :)

On the chicken front ....... I'm looking for a Brown Leghorn or two for DH. :) I don't care about the age, I just was looking to surprise DH since he had to butcher his rooster for attacking our 4yo.

Other than that, not much going on. It was so humid today everytime I started cleaning I ended up covered in sweat. yuck. I'm glad it seems to be cooling a little. Well everyone have a great night.

Evening Everyone...busy day here on the hill. Put up another 2 gallons of pickles today, and picked another gallon bag of broccoli for grandma. Gonna hafta pick the beans in the mornin, and the beets are lookin beutiful...Angie stopped and picked up her tires....another gallon of pickles, cukes, zukes, maters, and beets sent home with her...and of course a few dozen eggs. Life is good here, and sharing is what it is all about. Worth the work to be able to share the harvest.

Glad you have the water runnin again Cind...bet you are too! Amazing how much everything costs to fix when you need to bring in the help. Can't wait to see the eye bills when they arrive....feel blessed to be able to read them though. You know the kinda between a rock and a hard place.

I think the world will be a better place when the Chicken can cross the road without a motive! LOL!

BLT'S tonight on fresh ho-made buns...the maters OMG...is this Heaven?
