Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello BYC buds!! Over 300 posts since I was here last-for once I admit defeat and not going to try and catch up...so did I miss anything?

I hope everyone, their families, and their chooks are all happy and healthy!

I beleive I have a couple Lavendar Orpinton Cockerals if anyone is interested?

Oh, Ang, I know the feeling! I bought 3 lav orp chicks and wouldn't ya know, all 3 are boys.

I'm lloking for a good home for one of them too. I'm doing like the doc & heading nort this weekend, hopefully, so maybe I'll be swinging by FT's place. She can always use a few more roos.

Cind, I am so glad you've got water again! I can hardly imagine what that's like for so long. Especially with all the critters and the heat! It makes me think I better stock up, just in case. Ya never know.

DrH, we still haven't had to mow yet, but if we get a little more rain, we just might. Mom said today that her grass is like straw, but the weeds in the cracks in her alley are 2 feet tall & green as can be. I think I'll take the dead grass.

And as for the comment about Squinty, give her some time: she'll adapt & be able to drive just fine! What's wrong with one-eyed drivers, anyway?
lau.gif
Where is your camper again? And what is a buff roast, anyway????

Amy, thanks for posting DrHs pickle recipe! Copy & paste is my best friend!
wink.png
And I'm so sorry to hear about your hen & chicks.

Vicki, I sure hope the arm is feeling better.

Apyl, I think H&R raises brown leghorns, but they might be banties?
hu.gif
Where has Cheryl been lately, anyway?

I couldn't agree with you more, Bigz. Nothing better than the feeling of sharing the garden bounty with others. I just wish mother nature felt more generous down here this year.

Glad you can read those eye bills too.

Yep, the thunder boomers woke me up this AM too, a few times. Once was right as DH was heading off to work. My poor sweetie. Had another downpour right before I was going to head out to release the poultry. Can't say I was mad. It's been so long since we've seen any moisture down here. As someone else mentioned, some of the chickens have never heard thunder or rain. Yikes!

Bl4, she's prolly waiting for me so she can rip me a new one for not answering her SOS.

Here we go!

Good Evening everyone!

Although I had 2 girls in the box this morning, I only had one egg. Maybe tomorrow? I figure that they wouldn't start sitting in the box unless they are close to laying, right? When I went out to check the girls were taking a dust bath. I still have to giggle when I see them burrowed down into the dirt flapping around.

Good luck to all of you with intruders. Whether they be coons, foxes, or others, I hope you trap and/or eliminate all of those critters.

I am jealous of all of you with tons of veggies & fruit and all of the canning, pies, etc that you are making.

Cind- I am glad that the water is running again.

Bigz-show off! Home-made buns????? Did you make the mayo and raise the pig too?
droolin.gif

FT- I don't know how you can stand small birds in the house. I'm dinosaur sitting a parakeet for 4 weeks. It tweets randomly, sometimes quiet and other really loud. I didn't mind my 10 chickies, but the parakeet is irritating to me for some reason. Why does it tweet randomly do you know? It paces in front of the bars and the mirror. What is it doing?

Well our dandelion wine is almost ready, our hops are in bloom, and we just bottled a Rye beer.

Hi All!

Amy... sorry to here you lost some more.... Get that sucker! get 'em all!

DrH... I think trying to slip your friend an extra $100 is well worth it. Feed's gone up, fuel's gone up, processing gone up and so has the price of beef! If he won't take the cash maybe you can give him a gift card as a "tip".

TO... Getting a urinal won't keep 'em from dribbling! I've had enough "boys" and cleaned enough men's bathrooms to know for sure!

FT... LMAO!!! I would open the door and they would probably turn and run! LOL

It was so nice taking a nice long bath Mon. night! Everyone finally got "refreshed"
bow.gif
It was also so nice not to haul water for every little thing! Even the dishes were a pain having to heat the water on the stove and watch how much I used. Goes to show how much we take for grant it!

I was packing up eggs to sell tonight (I do it every few days) and guess what..... I have GREEN EGGS!!!!
ya.gif
Now I just got to figure out who laid them!
hu.gif
I was trying to breed for green eggs this year and it worked! Guess Prettyboy and George (and the girls) did good!
love.gif
I would post a pic. but egg colors don't show too well.

At lock up tonight I was missing a guinea hen. I couldn't walk enough to look for her so young son said he would look when he gets home from work. I have been missing all but a couple of guinea eggs for the last couple of weeks and another guinea hen has been broody in the coop all week so I'm not too worried. However Jim said the males will hang out and guard but all of them came to roost so I don't know

Had one of those "spit" rains .... guess it's better than nothing!

Well, that's it..... night all!

CS, your Budgie is probably just lonely. They are social birds just like chickens, so IMO it is cruel to keep just one. I know you are only babysitting this one and it is not staying with you long. The mirror is just there to fool the bird into thinking it has a companion. They also recognize they are not in familiar surroundings so it is probably looking for it's people. I have 6 of them in a big aviary; they are just as entertaining as the chickens. They watch TV, if they like a show they are quiet through the whole thing if they don't like it- good luck!
wink.png
I never did read anything in that stupid ordinance about Budgies...... I am probably non-compliant there too. Heck since they are so loud you should keep a few by your chickens to mask their noise!

Picked my first 3 tomatoes yesterday and gave them to my neighbor. I know she and her hubby will enjoy them.

Ok off to work.

morning everyone!

Ok,, ducking now
hide.gif
it is raining up here again! Well, actually it just stopped raining but should hit again in another hour or so. Just a 1/2" downpour here but just a little south there are a 1000 people without power in the potato flats around Antigo. Supposed to be stronger storms for us later. I opened the coop to let the girls out in between storms while I set the coop up for an indoor play day. Besides the usual stuff of fresh water, etc. I put an unbroken leaf of fresh hay in the middle of the floor and poured a cup of scratch on top. Instead of staying outside, they just KNEW I was up to something good and all came running back in as soon as I was done!
That should keep them busy for quite awhile.
big_smile.png

Well, that's all the typing I can do with this stupid bum arm so it now it's a rough day of curling up in my recliner with my book, a cuppa, puppy on my lap and watching the rain
thumbsup.gif
Oh, and good thing we are above the heat advisory
wink.png
because I must put a heating pad on this arm. Ok, now I am ducking and running!

Cool, wet wishes for all you "southern" folks!

Cindlady~don't know what kind of soil you have but my DH drove a sandpoint well near the gardens with an electric pump on it we just plug in with an extension cord to water the gardens or as a backup, and it can easily be converted to a handpump (which we have) if necessary. Boy, it has sure come in handy over the years!!! We also have rain barrels EVERYWHERE that get filled every time we have the pump on so I never have to haul a bucket more than a yard or two
