Hi all!

Judge... hope your hen gets better!

To those who got the "Green goop" and would like to know what's in it.
Tinctures of Plantain, Calendula, Chickweed, Comfrey root, Lemon Balm, Mullein leaf and St.Johns Wort. absorbed into a base of olive oil and bee's wax.
It's a great antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Great for any kinds of wounds and very good on diaper rash! Use on burns after blistering is gone. A good lip balm and friends and family who used it on fresh tattoos won't use anything else!
I noticed this batch was a little heavy on the bee's wax. You can fix that by melting it in the microwave for 45-60 sec. and
add a 1/2 tsp. of olive oil. I don't like to make it too soft because when it's soft, people seem to use too much.

I lost my leghorn hen today (Roadrunner) she was very pale the last few days. Didn't see any worms in her stool or mites. But she's had a bit of pasty butt on and off for weeks. I think she was 4, maybe even 5 by now.

another one I'll miss.
On another note... Storky is broody again!
barnie.gif
Maybe the up coming cold snap will make her change her mind!

Going to try to cut a bigger hole into the old rooster pen for the turkeys today(Thur) I gave them a large doghouse for now but all the do is sit on it! LOL.

Question.... is it OK to use fix-a-flat on a wheelbarrow tire?

Night All!

Good morning everyone,

Hope all is well. I can't seem to keep up with all the posts but I don't think I am alone. I have been thinking lately of rehoming the ladies and getting new chicks in the spring. I have 7 chickens about 1 1/2 years old, still laying 6-7 eggs a day. I have been so busy with work, the kids, and the other animals I just don't get to spend time with the ladies. Anyone in Central wi who would like them, let me know. They are 6 golden comets and one silver lace wyandotte. One is going through a particually bad molt, but they are healthy. I don't want to post them on Craigslist, I would rather have chicken lovers get them.

Good Morning - yes I noticed the "Hi' Gina"s and figured you see me lurking. I do follow the Cheesehead threads and feel like I know each of you and enjoy all the conversation. I have also been following the thread in Emergencies, Diseases, etc. called "The Road Less Traveled..." it is a very moving real-life story of getting an entire flock of chickens back to health, all naturally, and from a state of shockingly poor health. I encourage everyone to check it out. I know I am now on the lookout for some NuStock and have also found Apple Cider Vinegar WITH 'The Mother'. Who knew? Anyway I have already learned a lot and find myself examining my chooks with a very critical eye.......mites? lice? gleet? I don't think so.......but I am certainly checking! My chicken world has been overall good. Participated in a couple of poultry shows this year. Mostly very enjoyable and plan on participating in more next year. I am definitely not ready for the REALLY BIG shows but have enjoyed the smaller venues. I have sold every bird I wanted to sell this year and am down to my "winter flock". This consists of laying hens and breeding stock. It is so hard to whittle down........I want to keep too many! I limited myself to four breeds for breeding/hatching season. well ok maybe five......I am attending the Birch Run Fowl Fest next weekend (just as a spectator) and will be coming home with a quad of Calico / Mille Fluer Bantam Cochins........THAT will be my 'fifth' breed if all goes well. Tommy got me completely hooked on Cochins!! Dang Tommy. I will also breed BBS Silkies; Bantam Faverolles; LF White Chanteclers and LF Barred Plymouth Rocks. I lost my gorgeous White Chantecler cock bird this summer. Have absolutey no idea how or why - was simply tipped over dead one afternoon. No mark on him; was in his own secure pen inside my coop; was not sick; appeared completely fit and healthy. I guess, after talking to some OT's, "this just happens sometimes". I guess I learn the hard way to always have a "back up". I am still securing a breeding quality male to replace him - I only kept one of his sons and in my opinion he is not nearly as nice as his father. I have several of his daughters who are outstanding......but there it is.

Allright keep chatting. I'll keep lurking. Have a great day - enjoy the beautiful Fall!

Welcome Gina, glad you decided to post this morning, Sorry about your Rooster, I also lost a nice Del, from Jim like that this year, he was fine when I checked them at midnight and by 6 am he was 6 toes up............ never did figure out why..... we burnt the carcass just encase, but didn't loose any others this year, except my ole hobbles, who surprisingly lasted to over a year, he was a failure to thrive GLW who weighed maybe 3 lbs, he was my gimpy crippled boy who I didn't have the heart to butcher last year with his siblings.
Well I better go feed them hungry buggers or I won't have any left hehehehe....Be back later all............Kim

Well I'm back.chooks are all fed and sassy waiting for me to open their pen so they can go out and scrounge around for bugs, the boys had their eggs and are calling for the girls to come get some, lucky I set their pen in the front yard or I would have some very mad girls on my hands....hehehe

So Jim hows the tractor trouble coming? did the guy get your starter fixed? and did you fill the gas tank? hehe or will it take a few days to get the starter done? Anyway wondering what the plan is for this weekend, are we gonna wait and fatten the boys up another week or are we gonna butcher, despite the nasty weather coming in this afternoon? I didn't see rain in the forecast this morning except for today, but cold is a given high of only 48 here so probably 42 by you? too cold to butcher ya think?
Like I said it isn't a big deal for us whenever you are ready willing and able, my boys are penned up and could use a little more fattening up, plus my other 6 are too little yet they are just almost 3 months old, so no bother if we wait, and then when to wait until? next weekend, the following? end of the month? If we wait too long Adam might be out who knows where with a job? school is done ........Oct. 12th is graduation, and I'm thinking Straight shots will start him sometime the following week....if he don't find a better one in between time....? So just let us know what works for you guys...........

Cind thanks for the info, and where can I get me some green goop....... I'm getting my tat finished tomorrow, usually use A&D ointment, but would sure like to try the green stuff........Sorry about your little hen... so sad to loose a good girl, I have a BO who is looking pale and molting like crazy, wondering if she isn't gonna get sick, she hasn't even left the coop the last couple days to go outside in the yard........... worried about her, though gonna do a good once over today and see if I can discover anything...... have to clean the nest boxes anyway, some of the new pullets are sleeping in there.....argggg the big girls are chasing them off the roosts, Can't figure out why there is 33 chickens in my coop and over 60 feet of roost space.......... mean girls........also there all my EE's so smaller maybe the big girls are just bullies.....I also agree with Dan buy the tube lasts much longer than the fix it goop......

Judge.I would try the PrepH and a dark place, ya can't go wrong trying, but it doesn't look too good, maybe she will molt soon and stop laying......keeping my fingers crossed for ya........

BigF keep them pants on hehehehe ;)

Dr.H ya wanna come cut some wood for us, I need about 3 face cord cut in 1 foot peices for my cordwood coop project...like this
700

wanted to get it finished b4 winter, but thinking now that isn't happen, no wood and no money.............

CasieD good luck with your fall hatch, you are braver than me I won't hatch anything after June 1st, it gets too cold too quick here, and went through 1 spring with a basement ful full of chooks NOT doing it again.....too dusty

BBP wish I had known ya had the seed, I would have taken wheat and flax......... for the chickens..........

So anyway I better go get my hay or Carrots started b4 this cold weather catches me with my pants down........... Later all ..Kim

Where are you at? I would take the Wyandotte hen....... I love my shimmer and she could have a sister then...........we are between Appleton and Shawno.....

good morning

thanks for the update Gina, sorry about the roo, hopefully you find a replacement. I have yet to talk to Mike Gilbert about Ameraucanas but he is also the secretary for the Chant club. You probably are aware of this, just throwing it out there

Cind, the fixaflat works, green slime is better, but a tube is most likely cheaper and a better fix

last warm day for awhile hopefully I can get a few things off these lists

good AM, was up at 5 again.. did lots of reading already.. and some more tractor research.

Cind, there is a better product out at Menard's for fixing leaky tires.. It is called SLIME or something like that.. I just took the tire off the rim and poured a small amount into the tire.. then I rotated the tire around to spread it all over inside .. It takes a lot less of the product if you do it this way.. then you can fix more tires..

before you put the tire back onto the rim, sand the rim a bit to make it smooth,, and then goop up the bead with dish soap and a bit of water to make it slip on easier..

If all else fails.. put a tube in it..

I did not return here last night.. Gramma was difficult.. she wouldn't stand up to go to bed.. so at midnight, I just fully reclined her chair and threw a quilt over her.. she sure can get bull-headed.

Kim, Annie traded days so next weekend she will be home..

Dora didn't want to come in last night.. there were dogs all over the countryside barking.. I guess she just wanted to converse ..

All of the turkeys have shunned the coop lately.. (except Tommy).. I think it is just too crowded for them..

I want to send a woman the address to join Cheeseheads.. what do I tell her to do to join ?

MORNING EVERYONE!!!
CL~yep. hubby uses fixaflat in our barrows and wagons and basically anything with tires.

OTONOH~ooooooh, I wish I was closer. I would gladly have taken the Wyandotte. She'd fit in fine with my 2 black Stars and Aussie mutt. (and 1 ??? chick). I have room for one more after recently losing one, darn.

Well, looks like I have a day off! I hurried and got everything put away, tied down, covered up, etc. ahead of our coming storm now it won't hit (except for the wind) til rain later and snow not til (hopefully) tomorrow. Gives my girls a bit of a better chance for transition into the harsher temps, yea! Anyway, so it's off to town I go to check out what's new at FF and hopefully pick up some Valbazen.

Here are some pics I took yesterday pm ahead of the change in weather coming that will surely wipe out our color. The bottom one is my "farm dog" Angel as we went for a walk down the "lane" that divides our field from our woods. It was so nice to get my work done in time to have a little play time with my puppy on what is probably our last beautiful autumn day up here, at least with all the color, sigh.

Going to be interesting to watch the girls tomorrow. Remember they never saw the outside til they came to live with me so it should be entertaining to watch them deal with snow for the first time!
