Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

DrH, I believe I read that it was 3 weeks to clear out the unwanted sperm. I remember Jim waited 2 weeks this past year & he said it wasn't long enough.
So sorry to hear about Donny. I hope it is a good sign too.

Ang, get an outdoor power strip stake & plug your extension cord into that right by your coop, then you can run extension cords off of that to your heated waterers, lights, etc. I have one with a surge protector & a built-in timer. You can get them at Walmart in the Christmas dept.

I use this kind of waterer:

with this bowl. The plastic heated bowls are too small to fit the waterer inside. HTH

CC: How any of the waterer/heated dog dishes do you set up? How many chickens do you have? That stake power strip is pretty kewl. I actually run these in through the other half of my barn...but it has dirt floors so I could use this in there. My biggest concern is to not over heat (Does it have a breaker on it?) and have a barn fire-the barn is really close to the house.
I am thinking this may be the perfect answer to my situation though!!! And a lot easier to clean and re fill / lug around1 gal waterers than the 5 gal ones.

What does everyone do with their egg money? Use it towards food? How many will raise the price of eggs with winter costs going up?

Personally, the chicken food I consider the expense of having pets. Then use the egg money to justify all the gadgets and treats I buy the girls...along with helping to pay someone to take care of the girls if on vacation etc (Although a certain someone will never take it when they do such an awesome job with my flock!!!)

With that said-any suggestions on the cheapest place to buy mealworms? I just ordered 17.6 oz KayTee mealworms from Amazon for 15.22 a lil cheaper than FF...Has anyone here raised their own? Im still really creeped out about them but trying to come up with ideas for the winter. ALong with sprouting BOSS. Does Safflower sprout? What other common grains do you sprout?

I am procrastinating as I need to get out and worm (using Eprinex) but its soo cold and I know they arent going to be happy campers with me grabbing them from their free ranging time.

Ang, I use the dog bowl w/ plastic waterer for my rabbits & Jack, and I use a heated base w/ a 5 gallon metal waterer for the flock. I have 24 birds, so far.

I fill up 1 gallon jugs and lug those out to the coop instead of filling up the waterer & carrying it. It helps alleviate spills.

My carport has a dirt floor too, so my power stake is inside. Works awesome! I really like that it has a timer built into it that has a dusk to dawn feature & can also be turned off if you don't need it. My carport has skylights so the photosensor works well even though it is inside. I'll have to check on the breaker thing, but I'm pretty sure it has a surge protector built into it.

Egg $$$ goes for food & treats here, and I get mealworms at Walmart. TerriO raises her own, so she could help you out there.

You are reminding me I need to get my Christmas lights up......

SO happy to be at home, I have a nice big batch of Chili cooking away in the big crock pot and I am relaxing away......

Ang, keep being a tree killer. You are keeping me in business as well. We supply paper mills with bleach.

Oldest DD's BF got his very first vehicle the other night. A nice pickup truck. (I told him no sleeping bags or mattresses in the back...... ) Since I was out shopping last night for my winter running gear, I also made a stop at wallyworld for some groceries. While wandering through the sporting section I found some fantastic Bone Collector decals for $2.50 each. Since the BF is a fan, I grabbed 5. Apparently I hit the jackpot, he was putting them on his truck as soon as DD gave them to him. Those two are off bear hunting this afternoon.... it would be cool if he did manage to get one. I would like to see a bear up close at least once in my lifetime......

My cats must be cold. They are all sitting on the bed with me fluffed up.

Time for more STNG. Later all!
