Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good evening...here I am just like last night procrastinating about going out to close up...sheesh, guess I shoulda done it at 5:30 when it was still light...but NOOOOO...I had to look for places to go and ride tomorrow! (and now it is dark and I have eaten my dinner so I dont wanna go out!)
I sure hope the scattered showers are widely scattered and NOT where we end up going!

So yeah, pot roast for dinner with carrots and potatoes. MMMMM! It was really yummy. I used to use Lipton onion soup in my pot roast but since it has wheat I added some of my "Kick Start" bloody mary mix--fantastic! It had just the right amount of spiciness to compliment the roast. I think it might have tenderized it a bit too. Anyhow, it was delish. And as a bonus, the house was warm too!

OK-I guess I do need to go outside now...sweet dreams all! TerriOwishingtherewassomethingonthis$$$cabletvtowatch

(PS) need to add that I had to move a huge haystack this morning so more newly hatched chicks could follow the mama out. They still didnt want to come out so I gave them food and water. Maybe they will come out tomorrow...yup--I found Road Runner!

would you believe I stumbled across someone desperate to sell 4 Hedemora chicks but they are in Kentucky!!!! She is willing to sell all 4 chicks that were born on 9/19 for $10!!!! Shipping would be $60 (I think) but I have no place (yet) to winter chicks and can't get them!!!!

BBP, I think Vader. He could use the force and get Voldemort before he could utter a spell or use his wand.

My KIDS tell me that Voldemort could invade Darth Vader's mind and take control of him. So now WE are having a debate!

I poured 120 plates today... my arm is TIRED! Washed a LOT of slides.....

Not much else to report here. I did drag my butt out of bed this morning and go for a walk/run..... I am tired. So I am sipping my wine and relaxing....

Hi folks

what's with the wind? keeps adding things to my lists,,,,,grrrrrr

David I plan to order some chicks in March,,,,just need a place to brood them until they are full feathered

Sunnyside and Abendroth's are 2 that I have used in WI and there is another in Bancroft that gets mentioned here

not sure but I think Idea and My Pet Chicken are connected,,,,my bet would be you can find chicks this spring locally unless you have your heart set on certain breeds. I will be hatching (insert wink here) starting in Feb. BCMarans, Wheaton/Blue Wheaton Ameraucanas for sure,,,who knows what else. I'm just an hour north of you.

anyone ever use feed from Hubbard? saw it mentioned on another thread, found a mill that sells it and will mix and grind anything I request, even in smaller quantities, it's about 80 miles away but I live in bfEgyp

comfort food night, hoemade mac and cheese, and for late night snacking pleasure brownies

I prefer to get locally but have never heard of colombian wyandottes in this area. I checked out Sunnyside adn Abendroths, but will have to check out the one in Bancroft, it is only about 1 hour away.

David...we have done MPc with a group of others in late march with success. As for Bantys... We have a number that are wonderful. Cheryl on here breeds bantam brown leghorns that are really friendly. My bantam Cochin does fine in winter. We are trying duccles this winter, but they are sweet birds. Carol and is ill be breeding those in spring.
Afraid that at four weeks of age, we have to bring our babies in...momma has decided not to spend as much time with the chicks, she was busy scratching and not sitting with them as much today. One was shivering pretty good... I am a worried momma now, so they are moving to my garage with a heat lamp.
Just tring to figure out the best way to attach a perch to the inside of the plastic shed that is now attached to the coop
Kristip,

thanks, thank you, a Neighbor and I may be spitting the order. I am just concerned about the cold. I have spring break the last week of March, then can't take off until June 9th which is too long for me to wait.

Otonah: My last order of 7 came from MyPetChicken-all came through wonderful and grea personailities. As far as Bantys-BBP has a lot of experience with this-My banty cochin from her is absolutely the sweetest friendliest lil thing ever!!!

MLH: Did you get the email/msg/pics?

BBP: In quirying minds want to know: What did you settle on for a name of your filly?

Jim: If you have pics of the cockatiels I can tell you what sex they are;Especially face pics. Rule of thumb: The males are alot more colorful and friendly. The orange cheek patch is a brighter orange than the females and yellow is brighter/more intense. If you have a pearl-at 6 months a female will stay pearl, a ale will loose the pearl markings. The white body with yellow shading is a lutino. Again all of them you can tell by the orange on the cheek. Also all the babies will have pearl/dotting under thier wings-however at 6 months old, the males lose this. I also found that females had more narrow beaks and were grayer (although this was never a true proven method of sexing)

Please send good vibes-positive thoughts this direction: The company both of us work at is laying off over the next two days. I beleive we are both safe but you never know how these things go. Its going to be hard no matter what seeing peoples jobs cut. We work for a large company and if its truely 10% that means 250-350 people will be cut in the next 48 hrs. (Managers and up are tomorrow, employees on Wed)

I'm personable too Speckled Mille Fleur D'UCcles.LOL I can not spell sorry...... I also love the Cochins, so fluffy they are....... never seen SLW bantams, but I bet they are pretty...........
when I was first going to put my order in, I had wanted the little ones until I seen how small there eggs are......... decided on Large breed instead......... I did check with PP and they do have SLW bantams, here http://www.purelypoultry.com/wyandotte-bantams-p-663.html they ARE SOLD OUT FOR THIS YEAR BUT YOU CAN SUBSCRIBE WHEN THEY COME BACK INSTOCK IN THE SPRING...
I ordered my first chickens last year in March they came the 25th, it was freezing the day I ran to Oshkosh to get them...... I was upset I had 4 DOA's and 1 was looking terrible and died the next day, but everyone else made it, I ordered 25 chicks, the ones I lost were the smallest chicks, all SS........ which are much smaller than LG breed fluff butts........ If your order is large enough the heat p[packets are not needed I been told, because they cuddle together and stay warm.. PP has a great selection of birds, and they stand behind what they sell !!!!!! They fixed my order plus gave me credit, for the abundance of cockerels I had on a straight run order............ they did much better this year with my EE's I am very happy with them, they had nice color variety, nice size most of em are laying at 22 to 24 weeks, now the stragglers...... and they are so very sweet......... I couldn't be happier with Tyler and PP............... though last year I was at first very upset with my screwed up order, it all worked out ok and Tyler made sure everything was good........ or I would not have ordered again from them.
There's a hatchery in Beaver dam too can't remember the name of it........... maybe that is sunnyside??? not sure..... one nice thing I'm told about Bantams they eat much less, and with the price tag on feed these days maybe I should have gotten the little ones.............. LOL
I never did get pictures today it was so windy and crappy cloudy I didn't bother but first thing when the sun comes back out I will take some...the boys seem to like there new run and lean too, but they sure can mess up a bed.......... I had to fix it already, and they finished off the tarp on the west side... little buggers.............

Anyway I should finish up my threads almost bed time, and up at 5 am.......... will see ya ll in the morning............... Kim
