Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Came home tonight-on the run, let the chickens out for 30 mins before I had to run into town (pick up tax return, pick daughter up from BBall, and take her to voice lessons). When I closed up the coop-kept coming up one short...thought i had miscounted-did this like 10 times (yes its a long day and counting 24 chickens takes me awhile). Finally realized I did indeed have one missing. By this time its pitch black out. Finally see a dark shape on our patio by the wrought iron table/chair. I go over and there is my young EE'r hanging upside down by her foot. The armrest is 2 pieces that come together on the side. her foot was jammed in and she wa just hanging there upside down not moving. Picked her up loved up up and she seems fine. Checked on her a little while ago-her foot seems sore but think she is fine. How long can they hang like that without dying?

Speaking of massages-had an hour and a half this weekend-MUCH needed.

Too funny!

Really though...I have had them hanging upside down for a long time...you never know how long they have been like that though...ya lock them up and find them in the morning! One roo was hanging by a long spur and lasted a week and then finally died. Another was hanging by just a toe and was fine. Probably all depends on how long and hard they fight to get loose. Lucky you found her when you did!

Got some of the mud moved off the mats today...it was a little easier walking to close up. Turned the ducks I got from my neighbor loose too. They were in the barn tonight. Anybody know what kind they are? She didnt know. Now the brown one has a green head...I think they are both boys.

So I guess I am going to hit the hay...kinda tired. I hope I sleep better tonight--NO cold medicine; last night it made me so jumpy I kept waking up. I'd rather have a stuffy nose I guess...
Good night and sweet dreams to all...TerriOstillgarlicless

How do they always manage to get their legs caught hanging upside down? I had that one Orpington hen that my husband found this spring hanging from a dog kennel. She still doesn't have scales on that leg. And her broken foot healed weird so her back toe goes forward now.

Evening All....What a beautiful Fall day here today. A whole month of days like this would be great.

That truly was a nice win for the pack.

Thanks for the information on the 12" er Doc....kina wish I had one like that for one handing. Hope you had fun breakin it in. We'll be careful Jim. It's easier on the back.

Yep, it was me bigfam....mine always lay through the first winter without light, providing they have started already.... keep us posted. You can always add the light...only takes a couple weeks to get them started after you add the light.

Good to hear frenchie is doing good. We worry you know.

Thought about MLH today when I saw a old Nutrena poster in the new Backyard Poultry Magazine. Did she go on Vacation?

Lucky for sure that you found her Angie that night...prolly woulda been stiff in the morning I'm thinkin.

Don't know about the Ducks TO? Maybe the dark one is a Rouen or a cross?

Just heard the Pack is gonna lose two players for the rest of the season....Saine and Smith...rb and db.

Bigfam, thank you soooooooo much for getting in contact with Frenchie & letting us know she is ok. That's terrible news about her aunt, but unfortunately not too suprising. She has been very worried about her for quite some time now. I'm glad to hear ET is doing good.

Doc, we all know Taz needs to get a teeny bit more exercise,

but I think the rowdiness of the full, unadulterated attention of a kitten might be a bit more than she will care to endure.

Having a playmate who has the same energy level will greatly ease Taz's, um, patience level? C'mon doc. Kittens are like tater chips. You know you want more than one.

I could NEVER foster a prego cat, Terri! The last feral litter we found, 3 of the 5 kittens never left. Not that I'd ever want them to. I just love those 3 brothers. And they just love each other. They are always sleeping or snuggling together. So darn cute! I'm glad you're feeling better, Terri, and I just love the vid of Tommy. He's a smart one for sure.

Unk, thanks for posting that tomato link!

Well that stinks. Smith was pretty good, I thought.

Bator went into lockdown this afternoon. Yes, I am one of the crazies hatching chicks before winter even gets here.

It's not my fault, honest! DH made the mistake of asking me what if something happened to my only lav hen, seeing as I have 3 roos? Well, duh! Gotta hatch out some more, right?

So hopefully I will be hatching out some lavs soon.

I only had 1 that wasn't fertile, and another that started veining but quit, so that isn't too bad. Hopefully the rest make it.

Better get to bed now. Sweet dreams, all!

Heck BigFam you could have given me a jingle and saved yourself the trouble. I have Frenchie's cell number!

Busy day for me! Tokk DD for the big driving test, she did not pass again which is ok with me since our insurance will go through the roof when she does. Then RACED to Appleton so I could 'relax' and have my massage. Worked at Fox for a bit then home to sit for a bit (watched ST Search for Spock), then off to my sister's house for a visit, came home and decided it was now or never to empty the backyard pond. Found all the frogs trying to overwinter at the bottom while I emptied it out, and I brought the Goliaths into the house.... the poor Tetras were frantic when the Big Boys suddenly appeared! The little guys are my Tetras ( hiding by the fake log).... this is a 20 gal. tank and I would like to point out it is REALLY hard to photograph fish!

Ok, passing out here, you have no idea how long it took me to get this pic up..... I had to download all my pics off my camera via bluetooth.....

Night!

Hi All!

David... knew you couldn't last long without chickies!

DrH.....You know we'll keep working on getting you 2! LOL

TO... 3/4 chicken! Yep! That's what I can call Jasmine! And yes. she's a great brooder!

Bf4m.... Glad you found Della! I had to super glue Rose together and she seems to be doing good, so yes, clean her up and away from harm and she should be good. So glad you got hold of Frenchie!!! I thought I had her cell number too, but couldn't find it

Angie.... Glad you found your little hen in time!!!

CC... Your right, one kitten would want to play with Taz all the time and it might be too much for her. 2 kitties would have each other and Taz could play when she w

Bl4... Oh my! I hope those little fish know how to hide!

Well, I went out to get the mini brooder pen for the keet and chick at about 11:30 but stopped short 1/2 way down the ramp. My son saw me and asked why I stopped. I said because I didn't want to startle the skunk in the turkey pen! He wanted to shoot it with his bow but I was sure it would spray before it died! I knew there was one around. I smelled it a few nights ago! Just glad none of the critters got sprayed! OR I wound up with dead chickens! Most are locked up pretty tight but poor Rose is just loose in the "between" room
roll.png
I think the only way to get to her right now though, would be to go through the turkey pen and coop. Do you think the turkeys would deter it?
Speaking of turkeys. I got their new roost up! A 6 1/2 foot 2x4 and they can all fit on it now! They are ALL roosting in the coop! At their old place they didn't have a coop so this is a big step!

OK, better get to bed... night all!

Good AM, I do have a web page.. It is not active at all.. I inherited it a few years ago.. the original owners moved out of state and switched the moderator job over to me.. I tried for a long time to activate the people, but to no avail..

Dave, I still have your chickens locked in that pen,, You could come and take as many as you want..

Do you people really think that those cornish hens in the store are all hens ??

thanks for the heads up about Wave.. (and Wave is her real name) .. I have her email and will contact her right away... she is the woman who has a nice swap on father's day near Irma..

I had a response for turkeys on craigs list.. It was from draughtappleridge.. ie FT Sandi...
I think she will be coming back to byc soon..
