Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Just got done making another batch of pickled brussel sprouts with my mom. Last week we did it at my parents and holy cow did it stink! Smelled like someone sprayed liquid manure all over the house. This time we did it here, and thankfully it doesn't really smell too bad. I am sure my hubby will be very glad when he comes in from milking and the house doesn't smell like the barn, lol! So good though- glad my friend shared her recipe. I ate a whole jar by myself the other day :p My dad is coming to help finish the winterizing the coop tomorrow. Glad to say it looks great and should be very comfy for all the animals. Have a good night all!

Hi All! Not a good day today .... but better. Thanks for the concern!

DrH... Glad Donny is doing good and it wasn't as bad as it could have been! Too bad he lost a kidney, but I see they took those "extra" troublesome parts out while they were in there!

Less to go wrong later. Hope you get his toily fixed without a hitch....hahaha I'm sure Mr. Murphy will be watching over you!

kristi.... Much as I would love for you to take one... if you want a clam pet now.... a kitten ain't it.... however if you don't mind the extra energy for a year or less they do calm down. Up to you. Hope it goes well with your old doggie, it's hard when they get that way.

GR.... Hope you get that infection cleared up quick! Have you used the goop on it? Almost everything in it is an antibiotic. You could also try a little raw honey and plantain in a poultice. I agree with you about the medical community. They have their place for sure, but too often they want to push pills and procedures that have safer, cheaper alternatives.

jj.... When I use Purina I seem to get less eggs, and yes, softer shells. I will say the girls seem to like it because they eat more.... but then, they may be eating more because they feel they need more for the same nutrition.

The Dumore (sp?) Made by Purina doesn't seem as bad.

BBP.... Dose your dog have floppy ears? Sounds like what one of my older dogs got all the time. The first 2 times I took her to the vet. and all he ever did was lance it and clean it out. Hell, I can do that! And I did 8 or more times after that. Guess it's quite common with many floppy ear dogs when they get older.

BigZ.... Man, if only we all had money to pool for that farm! We could could have our own chicken compound! LOL

Bl4.... good luck on your cupcakes! Yup, a real banana cream pie is much better!

CC.... I think long hair on a cat depends on the type of hair/fur and the cat! Mine stays pretty clean and well groomed on her own. However she dose LOVE to be brushed and will even ask to be brushed.

On tossing eggs during worming..... I use Ivermectin for worming and toss egg (or feed them back) for the first few days. After that WE eat them. Ivermectin is used in humans for parasites all over the world so worse case with eating the eggs is we are worm free! Look into it yourself and decide. I won't sell them, but ok for us adults.

OK.... fighting the pain writing this.... hot bath and bed for me! Tomorrow better be better! Too much to do to fell like this! Night all!

Fifi and Danny

Ps Just an FYI these pictures were taken at the previous owners house. So when you see all of those goats and sheep, no they are not mine !!! And that little mini mare is PG from Danny !! So she will be having a mule in the spring. Hopefully if Fifi is PG she will have it in spring or summer. The previous owner didn't see any signs of them "doing it" so she doesn't think she is. Don't really care but they are together now, I just hope she doesn't get knocked up now or during winter or we'll have a baby donk born in winter. No barn so she'd have to have it in the house !!!!!! LOL
Thought I would clear up the donkey/mule confusion.
These are both donkeys. A donkey bred to a donkey of course will produce a donkey.
A MULE on the other hand is a cross between a horse mare (female) and a donkey jack (male). The offspring (the mule) will be sterile because horses and donkeys have different number of chromosones (sp) making the mule sterile. On very rare ocassions they have reproduced.
Now to make it even more confusing, when you cross a Jenny (female donkey) with a male horse (stud) it is called a HINNY. Looks just like a MULE and the only difference is in the name. A HINNY is also sterile.
You can tell the donkeys from the mules by looking at their tail for one. a Mule and Hinny will have a regular horse tale and their bodies resemble the looks of a horse. Their ears are not quite as big as a donkeys (most of the time) Their eyes look donkeyish but are not quite the same.
I saw a beautiful mule at the place Cody (the rescued horse) is at. Dark brown body and white socks !! Cute.
I just hope Danny controls himself in the spring when my horses decide to be barn whores.... or I'll have mamoth mules (draft horse x donkey) and pony mules. As cute as they might be I don't need any more critters. Should get Danny chopped but I wouldn't mind another spotted donkey if Fifi pops one out.

Drh, I'm so sorry to hear that Donny has cancer. I take it that it is Kidney cancer?
Chemo has come a long way since I first had it in 1971. The difference was like night and day between the chemo in the 70's and 1988 when I had my last round. That was a piece of cake in comparision. Hope he does well. Where is he going for treatment ? I had all of my surgery at UW Madison. Great place. They ordered my chemo protocol and radiation and I had that done in Milwaukee. Never trusted the doctors in Racine. They read my mamo and ultrasound and said it wasn't cancer..... when in fact it was.

Hope your feeling better Cind and GR keep an eye on that MRSA. I was one sick puppy. Chuck and I both had it but he just had a few tiny spots that tested positive. If they swab your nose and get a negative result on three separate tests they consider you MRSA free. I had my MRSA under my arm pits. That was pure hell trying to use crutches. I got a hard mass under my arm and at first I thought my cancer was in my lymph nodes. They lanced it and it really did relieve the pain. Their is barely a scar because they use that sharp scalpel. Hate to think what it would look like if it is allowed to fester and pop on it's own. I sure feel for you. With everything I've had done to me, I would have to say that those MRSA sores are one of the most painful things I have been through, oh wait..... When I burnned my eyeballs under a sunlamp that was pretty bad too (hey no comment Jim or Doc... I was only 16 !!! young and foolish)

Oh and one more thing about MRSA.... you mentioned spider bite... if you read up on MRSA that is one of the signs of MRSA....it can LOOK like a spider bite the doesn't want to heal.. Just sayin

Ok better get to bed before the chickens start crowing and making it imposible to get some sleep.

Night all and Good Morning too !!!

Good Morning All! 18 more days until we find out who the best liar was. But have to admit the light cardboard political mailings make wonderful fire starter. Cind glad your feeling a little better hope it continues! FT they thought it was stomach cancer but it wasn't.

Think he'll be going to Marshfield for radiation treatments. IDK. He was told that they might have to take a kidney plus the apendix and gall bladder. Just so glad it wasn't in his stomach, that's a death sentence for sure. Now he has a good chance of being a survivor! Always liked mules ever since Frances. For you youngins he was the predecessor of Mr. Ed. Bigz I'm with ya on the tats. Both dd's have them as does L. Don't understand it myself but to each his/her own. Hating needles might have something to do with it. GR hope you get better soon! judge the sprouts makes me want an old fashion. CC that's so mean posting chic pics this time of year.

Think me being a "good" friend is kinda pushin it. Think it's more the other way around. Took a lock with me last evening for the pump house. Wed. someone had been there during the day and left the water hose in pasture and in one of the water barrels for the cows in the front pasture. That is just stupid! And there were half a doz egg cartons on the coop floor. It has his lazy worthless son in laws finger prints all over it. If I find that kind of situation again I'm locking it up.

TO, got your letter, thank you for the 'not hate mail'.

It is going in my car this morning. I need to get a few more so that the others in the underground can get some too!

So I have a bit of an issue: the DD's BF works at a dairy farm and will come over after work. I have no issue with this but apparently I have a cat that DOES. That little sh!t is peeing/spraying in several places.... it is as though the litter boxes do not exist! She is really making me
somad.gif
. I can't toss her outside either since we are surrounded by streets and of course the city is on the warpath against cats roaming at large.....

I have gotten the calming sprays, I have been cleaning the soiled spots several times a day with enzyme treatments...... ugh. It is so frustrating to figure out a cats psyche.....

Ok better run, work work work!!!!

Oh yes... CC is mean posting those baby pics! But aren't they just GORGEOUS?! I'm super psyched you were able to make some back up Lav babies!

I'm sure my babies pictures won't be as cute as CCs. But I'll post them anyways when they're here. And I hope Doc put the hopping mad guy out there for me... I love that one! :D

Cute lav babies CC...love them!

As for my prior comment...should explain...calm pet... Wen we got our setter, the breeder gave us a high strung dog because we were the young couple and could handle her. Three of her siblings were returned for being too hyper of dogs. It was my first experience with a puppy and it was rough...my husband raised many dogs before no he said she was crazy. I grew up with lots of kitties and bunnies.
Just looking for the kitty or puppy that might sit still to snuggle sometimes. That is all.

Anyway... Loving my chickies right now. Tr little silkie is so snugly.

Hoping it stops raining soon. Have so much to do outside.
Stay dry everyone.

Good morning all! Does anyone know why none of the little icons are on top? It has been over a week since i have had them on here. I wanted to post some pics and such. Grrrr...
