Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I currently have 10 white ameracauna chicks, 2 female cream legbars, and 2 Dominique crosses :D

As to what Bator Im using: i have a mini Brinsea which hold 7 with the auto turner. I also have a hovabator (old model).

I think I am so much more successful this time because I wasn't all over the incubator and eggs all the time. I dry incubated until day 17 or so, then added a bit of water. On day 19 I popped up the humidity like a good girl. But this time I did not seal everything with tape. I was sealing everything TOO tight and I was most likely trapping large amounts of carbon dioxide in my bators. (Too much of a good thing) Normally, I get less that half hatch out of what goes into lockdown. My hatch rate has been abysmal. This time I have only 2 eggs left. Oh course one of them is the only lemon cuckoo Orp. but I'm thrilled I got 2 female leg bars at least!

For Ghost, and Cind..., HONEY. I finally got my Roo in here and soaked his poor legs. He's got leg mites. I was told to use olive oil. I was told Vaseline. I was told mayonnaise. I got to thinking about the healing properties in honey and how sticky it is. I put organic, pure, uncooked honey on his legs after the soak. What do you guys think about this? Do you think this will be good enough to suffocate the suckers, while still fighting open spots from getting infected?

thanks for the info on your process bigfam. I have to just stop fussing over eggs too. I have both of those bators as well and have only gotten about half my eggs to hatch.

John I think half is GREAT! When I say abysmal, one time I had 16 go into lock down and I had all but one die fully developed. I also won 2 dz eggs on here for the worst hatch rate! The consensus was carbon dioxide poisoning.

It never would have occured to me to tape an incubator shut, but I have set heavy things on by styro one to keep my son from pulling them out to listen for peeping.

I have gotten my share of no reason fully grown chicks also. That is why I end up midwifing with a finger nail.

JJ~the way I was able to "tame down" my rescue girls when I brought them home was I started by just talking to them on the roost. Then just petting their crops when on the roost, SLOWLY, didn't rush things. Now they are so friendly they are pests!

I've had honey glazed wings before, never tried it on legs,,,,,,,,,

Nu-Stock has been talked about on a couple of the threads I frequent,,,,Foster & Smith has a good price on my list next trip to Rhinelander

nice hatch Heather !

yup, think you hit it on the CO2 I had problems as well and blamed it on humidity,,,can't wait (but I will) to test out the 1202 this Feb

I've had excellent results hatching with my Brinsea Mini. Every fertile egg has hatched so far.

honey on live chicken legs Hummmmmmmmm LOL
it don't think it will hurt them but nor=t sure if it will work either, the best healing hunney is manuka honey from Australia, but all honey has some healing properties........ I have also heard everything from motor waste oil, to Vaseline, I would stick with the Vaseline because it is so dense in nature, most other oils will just heat up to body temp. and run off........ you could try soaking his legs in warm water and marigold petals that is antiseptic but will do little to kill the mites........ you could make a jelly outa the marigold petal solution and the Vaseline tho......... maybe Cindy will have some more ideas as well......... I will think on it and if I find anything else I will post it...............

TerrIO yes Friday was my B-day, worse one I have had in years, the only 1 too remember was my Insurance agent...... who called me bright and early at 9am......followed by Adams Happy B-day hunny when the phone call reminded him. so yah I had a pretty crappy day.......

Dan and GR ya beat me to it. Honey glazed.

What about bag balm for leg mites? JJ that's just too cute about the DS! Not good for hatching though. I learned to tape the styro bator from Jim, that really improved my hatch rate along with a few other things from his sage advice! He IS the hatchmaster!.... in a tutu. Made wood from around 8 till 2:30. Nice addition! Was throwing a few smaller pieces in the pile and L came out to see if I needed anything from town and all the way back to the house I could hear her saying "I don't have nothin" See I don't have nothin" Leave me alone"

Now up to 4 slw's moulting out of the 5 think the last will join them soon. Sat down on the trailer and called Peatwo over and picked him up. Stroked his ears like he likes, rubbed my finger nail under his beak like he likes petted his chest which he tolerates along with his back. Put him down and he shook himself and I swear could have made a small pillow out the feathers that flew. Poor boy! Heading to Donny's for evening chores shortly going to drop off some mini meatloaves for his freezer that L made. I call them giant hamburgers. He won't eat veggies other than taters.

Have 3 nice trees laying by the pile for tomorrow think that'll be enough for tomorrow then the Pack at noon. 35-3 is my prediction.

Hi all...just got back from F&F...I forgot once again to call the mill yesterday so I know I will be out of corn and feed by tomorrow night. Had to spent several more dollars at F&F than my mill too. Hopefully they wont rebel! I decided to get them some "scratch grains" too for a treat and I will begin fermenting a small amount of that and the mash for Monday. OK--I need help now; I decided that I am going to grow some forage and do the fermented feeding too but I cant find the thread for the information anywhere! It gives me all kids of results on my search but it is all state threads...like I really want to read through other state threads to find, "anybody try fermenting grains?" I havent ever had so much trouble with a search before!
OK--I need to go and get ready to go to the benefit for a guy...dinner and a social I guess. Our 4H club is making a donation. Later all--TerriOhopingthereissomethingshecaneatinthedinner
