Boy, you guys have been chatty! So glad I was wrong Ghost!! Whew! can't believe that little girl survived that long on her own. I'd sure keep an eye on that one. If she didn't even try to get back with her flock she may be a bit anti-social by nature and watch for her chance to make a break again!

Dr HaHA~glad to hear your back is getting better. Sorry to hear about Suzi's uncle. Can't remember much more. Hugs to everyone with sick chickies, children, loved ones. Prayers to everyone who has suffered a loss.

anyone heard from FT? Been wondering how she and her hubby are getting along (or maybe I just missed it).

Nothing new here except I had an interesting experience the last couple days. Been sitting on a jury. Nothing earth shattering or really interesting like a murder trial or anything but fascinating just the same. I'm still in the pool so I could be called again this month but unlikely. Up here deer hunting is treated as an "official" 10 day holiday and no trials etc. are even scheduled. With the weather acting the way it is, I wouldn't mind getting paid to sit and watch the show again. Oh, and I got paid mileage and a free lunch to boot

My girls are starting to lay again. 2 eggs in 2 days from 3 girls, not bad. Only one not laying is Soup but she goes in the nestbox and clucks and re-arranges things for several minutes. I don't mind she hasn't re-started yet tho I miss her nice big (huge) eggs. I think she might have needed time for some internal healing anyway because she was laying a lot of eggs with blood streaks in the white and more than one with hard, dried blood (?) balls in the recent past. she may have some intestinal issues that could use time to heal. At least she is over her "crankies" and not taking it out on the other girls anymore. She still goes after an occasional butt feather but not seriously. I think smearing poor Crockpot's still somewhat bare butt with the stinky NuStock has broken her of that. (remember I took advantage of the molt and wormed the girls so it's another couple days before we can start consuming the eggs again anyway).

That crazy chick that Broody momma hatched out from the neighbor's egg has got to go!!! The thing must be at least half leghorn and totally NUTS!

She (fairly certain it's a she-now over 12 wks old) is so flighty and squacky that Crockpot has had it with her and chases her away constantly. Even her "momma" raised her hackles back at her the other day and I thought they were going to go at it! Momma (aka broody butt) is my mild-mannered Aussie who's never given anyone trouble before! One of these mornings my neighbor is going to go outside and try to figure out how she has one more chicken than she thought she had

thanks for all the suggestions on the pie crusts- will have to try them out and see how each works

DH and kids have offered to be taste testers!

Just finishing breakfast and sad to report that we are down to our last 6 eggs- we will be increasing the light on our coop so that we will be able to incubate mid Dec for our NYD hatch.

Sunny here today so far- suppose I need to go and get chores done- have a good one

Thanks for the advice. I knew that production would go down, but I never thought all 17 would quit laying. I have to get out there and put in a light. We have a mix of red stars, black stars, ameracaunas, barred rocks, and chanticlars.
Off to my nieces 2nd b-day party today. Should be cute, little ones are always so excited with their cake and presents.
Hope you all enjoy your day. Go Pack!

I really need to STOP looking at these......

What a beauty! That saddlebred colt is still for sale too........

The dogs are attempting to play in a space approximately 4 ft square. I have all three cats surrounding me, a fresh cup of coffee.... staying in bed sounds good!

Unfortunately I am doing laundry, and I need to wash all of the mittens, snowpants, etc..... and I should entertain the idea of getting the Christmas lights up (not on). Plus I should run to the grocery store and pick up cereal and bread..... After the DH comes home from work we are heading over to my in-laws to visit the quackers.

I think they will appreciate a little time running around the yard.

What a beautiful day! All I need now is the dryer to finish!!!!

TTFN!

That is totally bazaar that all of them quit laying my girls will be 2 and the newbies are spring hatch this year so 6 months, a few of mine are still molting, but of my 29 girls I still get 18 to 20 eggs a day, am seeing more eggs from my older girls who are done with the molt, but mostly my 13 pullets are all laying at least every other day. I have a mix of Dels, SS, BR, BO, and EE's, 1 SLW,. BSL, who are by far my best layers even in the cold along with my SS... not much seems to bother them girls........ My recently molted, still has some porcupine feathers on her back and neck is already back to laying.. I don't heat the coop or light it, the only extra light they were getting was when I went out at 6 and turned the light on to see to get hay, they let them out, not sure what will happen now with the earlier day break and less light in the afternoon........ will see.
Did you change feed? or is something harassing them? try adding warm water to their drinking bowls 2 times a day, add some ACV if ya don;t use it..... the organic kind with the mother, and maybe add some BOSS its higher in protein, a couple good hand fulls a day it will add a bit extra protein to protect them from the cold...... Or could they have found a nice hiding spot to make a communal nest? My new pullets seem to prefer the hay stack and have a nice big nest I find at least a dozen eggs everyday...........even a couple from my SLW and BO's lay in it sometimes.
I think half the reason they don't like the nest boxes anymore is that several girls have taken to sleeping in them and making a mess I clean up everyday,, but not before some of them have already layed.
Hope they start again for ya soon.......... Kim
PS not much else going on here everyone, so I haven't got much to say except Good Day to ya'all....... have a good one...........Kim

Quote: That is unusual. Have you changed feed? Perhaps something got in the coop and they are in strike. I would do some checking. All on the same day suggests a common thread. Two days is not something to worry about..Might want to examine the hens too. Check for anything unusual. Its probably nothing.

I have changed my hen house to a different building a few time. Every time them hens refuse to lay for a week or two and some take longer. They are sensitive to change.

Hello my long lost friends !!!

Got back up nort late Thursday night. Haven't had the time (or energy) to get online to post.

As you might remember my Dear Auntie Esther passed Away on the 16th of Oct. so I went down to Racine for the funeral and stayed down there longer then I thought I would. Chuck drove down and back up the day of the funeral. He hit a deer but didn't do any damage, to bad because the car had some damage to it from when he slid on the ice and rear ended someone.
Anyway, Dolly (my aunts dog that I inherited) is doing good. She can't hear and likes to take off in who knows what direction on occasion. It is amazing that she is still alive at 12 yrs because when she was younger if she got out of the fenced yard on my Aunt she would just Run Run Run with no real idea of where she was going. I think the only thing that saved her was that she would greet the first person she saw and they would hold on to her and bring her home.
She has slowed way down but at the wayside on the way back up she just started to slowly run/walk following the road. Had to drive the van up to where she was cause she can't hear !!
Thank goodness it isn't all the time. Other then that she and Butt dog are like two peas in a pod. Kind of nice having two small dogs again. Last night must have been cold, We had two dogs and two cats and two people in full size bed !!!!!! Geez. Thank godness it wasn't the pyrenese !!!!

Sorry I haven't kept up again. I had no internet service down in Racine at my house, darn all of the neighbors have good security. Beats me why sometimes I'll be able to link up. Not this time, rats.

Will try to do some catching up. If there has been any earth shattering events in the past two weeks feel free to PM me.

So how did everyone like my "Perfect Storm " ???? LOL

Sandy
