Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BBP, rehabbing black bears is a tricky deal, you could see how they "bond" with humans in the video you linked, is that what is needed? There really isn't any wilderness left in WI where a release would be practical,,,just sayin'

also if you contact someone in the DNR there must be a better specialist other than Cathy Stepp who knows nothing about "natural resources", if you have a real estate development problem she's the one to contact.....

Jim I'm with you on the jello,,,Jake has been dragging hoof trimmings up to the house from the manure pile (see SnooRoo bigfam is right lotta manure up here)
DD has been keeping them, I told her she could make some "all natural" Jello and market it

TO I know a guy with some excellent Ameraucana stock that will help you restock if you so desire

Heather remember that dog you're watching has no training around birds and critters, your pup will be a real project but remember the reasoning and weigh the positives. OF course you will still have to convince the hubby,,,but you women have your ways,,,heh heh

need to make some dinner,,,bbl

Hi everyone!

JJ~thank you for the smiles, however~see what your innocent jokes started???? The way I roast pumpkin is to just split them in half top to bottom, clean out the guts (which the girls love) and place them face down on a foil lined baking sheet that I first poured just a bit of water into. Bake @ 325 or so until they are soft enough that a fork goes thru them easily. take out, flip over, let cool. Use a spoon to scoop out the flesh (first scraping out any strings you couldn't get out earlier) and viola' you have cooked pumpkin. One tip. If you happen to have "juicy" pumpkins, let the flesh sit in a strainer over a bowl to drain out the excess water before storing. I put 2 cups of the mash (equal to about one can of pumpkin) into baggies and freeze to store. then when I want to make a pie, bread, soup or (if you have really sweet pumpkins like I do) have a nice side dish you just grab a bag and thaw.

FT and OT~cute kitties!!!!

KristiP~ so sorry you feel so bad

If people feel that there is nowhere to release a bear that was taken out of the wild when its mother was killed we really need to get or human population under control. That should be or first priority. Not only are we encroaching on every living thing on this planet, we are raping the entire earth of its natural resources, which by the way, are expected to be fully depleted by 2050. There are people out there trying to make a difference. We keep human babies alive that wild animal mothers would kill themselves for the good of the species. But we can't help a fawn whose mother was hit by a car? I will be signing the petition. These rehabbers spend their own money to save these animals. The state is not out any money by letting them do it.

Vicki... So glad you posted the roasting pumpkin thing! I have lots of pumpkins sitting here. I keep meaning to let the kids smash them, but I thought it might be cool to try some roasting.

If you want to make a pumpkin pie better than anything that could ever be made out of a can, be sure your pumpkin mash is as drained as possible. the texture will then be 10x better than any you've ever tasted. (the other secret to mine being so much better is I don't cook the filling IN the crust~a bit more of a hassle but worth it for the results)
