Wish us luck with Hurricane Ian

Well,

We're battening down the hatches for hurricane Ian. I'm grateful that we are able to bring our rabbits inside tomorrow - we have a temp pen set up in our master bathroom (and newly born baby kits - they're almost 3 days old now. 7 have survived, and hoping that some make it). Both of our coops are elevated (one is about 12 inches and the other is about 15 inches). So they'll probably have a swimming pool in their run (last bad hurricane only had depths of a max of about 4-5 inches of standing water, so hoping that's the case this time).

When it hits our area, nearly all projections state it'll just be coming off a Category 1 into a tropical storm. Praying for all you fellow Floridians out there (and stateside neighbors that might get some rain as well).

If you're in an evac zone (we aren't,) make sure you understand if you don't evacuate, rescue will not come if the windspeeds persist at 40mph+ for safety. Please take the storm seriously and as hurricanes past have not been bad, it doesn't mean this one won't be. It could be another Irma.

Peace to all - stay safe!
Angela

We're starting to get outer bands now and unfortunately, the current projections take it right over our house.
My heart sank this morning when I saw that it ramped up to a Cat 4 and is hitting at an almost 5. We have lots of friends and family all over Florida since we used to live there. My sister just moved to Jacksonville last week. This is her first time living on her own, her apartment isn't even stocked with the basics since she just moved in and she has never seen anything beyond a mild thunderstorm. I called her up last night and made arrangements with my aunt uncle in north carolina. She's almost there now thank goodness. Between my husband and I we have seen many hurricanes and I told her this is not a good one to be in for the first time especially alone in an unstocked apartment. Stay safe!
