A few weeks ago we noticed that one of our chickens was walking funny – drunk like. As soon as I could I bought a smaller cage for her to go in and and put it inside the coop. Now while she’s in there she is flailing all around and it’s like she gets off balance and it’s weird I’ll post some videos. The only thing besides her regular non medicated food I’ve been giving her is electrolytes with supplemental vitamins in water (those packets you add to a gallon of water). This all started just 18.

In her cage it used to just be the bottom pan that’s in the cage but I added some of that grippy paper stuff but it just seems he keeps getting it all bunched up even though I try to just put it underneath and keep it as tight as possible it still gets punched up and she’s constantly getting pain in her food and water so I’m constantly changing it.

My husband doesn’t seem to have much patience and I don’t encourage him to go into the group anymore because when he sees her he’s like I don’t want her suffering. The thing is she’s eating and drinking water and she’s you know still here so I just don’t know what the problem is. We have 14 other chickens That are the same age as her that are fine

How old is she? Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease? Could she have eaten something toxic in the yard, such as insecticide, weed killer, lead shot or lead paint chips, compost, or a poisonous plant? Can she stand and walk, or is one side weaker?

Oh sorry. She is 13 weeks old. Not vaccinated for Mareks disease. Our chickens are not free range. She can stand a little bit but I haven’t really seen her walk lately. when she tries to walk she just wobbles over. I was thinking that maybe I needed a bigger cage because maybe the current one is not enough room to walk around in.

You can use old, clean bath towels in the bottom of the cage, change out as needed, that way the food and water should stay cleaner. Puppy pads work to, loose bedding is just going to be a struggle. I have a pile of old towels I keep for this. I would start her on a super B complex tablet or capsule once a day (human ones, any pharmacy or walmart should have them). B vitamin deficiencies are not uncommon and can cause neuromuscular symptoms. I would also give a E capsule once daily with a bit of cooked egg or sunflower seeds or canned tuna for selenium (which helps with the uptake of the E). Her position in the pictures looks like wry neck, which is often an E deficiency. If she's having trouble eating and drinking, then you may need to assist until you see improvement enough for her to do it on her own. Link below with wry neck info, and a video at the end shows how to help them eat and drink.
