Would it be wrong of me to point out that you spelled "grammatical" wrong?

(Just funnin' with you.)

He did also say that he would not have bothered to be "cordial" if she wasn't good looking - so does that still make him cordial? Or just a slightly more polite "dog" than the middle-aged men in his company?

Judging by the response from OP, can't say I blame the young lady at all. Heck, he's lucky if he didn't get the original e-mail sent in to HR for potential harassment.

She was not rude in the least.

She was an extremely smart young lady to deny any request to accept being hit on.

I want to raise my daughters to think like that.

I want to raise my sons to respect women who think like that.

Haha oops I knew that. Just typed too fast. Thanks for catching it.

Hmm good question... Unfortunately I don't think either I or the email recipient could answer that honestly without personally knowing him. I know some guys that like to act like dogs but are actually really good people. The OP seems like a nice enough person and is obviously very honest with his GF, which is very refreshing, so I think it makes him "curiously cordial."

I don't know if that's PC or not but I like it

In all honesty if you hear someone is good looking you want to see them. If you hear someone is the ugliest person you ever met you want to see why they think that. Asking someone if they use facebook is not bad. But asking for the facebook seems weirder, because you could have looked her up if you knew her name.

Is it rude and inappropriate to welcome someone to the new job and ask if they use a social networking site?

Also if being attracted to a person is being a dog then humans are nothing but mutts.

Yes, but if her name is something like Amanda Smith, he could be looking for her profile for hours on end. I still hold to my original reaction of it being weird, but just wanted to point this out.

It's not the act of being attracted, it's the way that attraction is expressed that determines the dog (or not).

Let me give you an example.

Many moons ago I worked at the county courthouse. Our file storage room was shared by the copier for the entire floor, but you couldn't see who was in the file half of the room from the copier. One afternoon I was filing when two middle-aged county employees (whom I knew well) came in to use the copier and, uh, waxed poetic about the physical attributes of an 18 year old girl who had been on the second floor that afternoon.

It was a lot less than appropriate. Ergo, dogs.

Me, I am hard to offend. Really, very, extremely hard to offend. But a lot of people are not, and sexual harassment laws say that one better learn what is and is not appropriate in the workplace.
