I try to give compliments, but I'm sooo bad at it! I usually end up just looking like an idiot. I like when I get compliments though and I'm usually pretty good at just saying thank you. Some days I make it a point to compliment at least one person. Its not difficult to do, but deb is so right! People can be so strange about compliments. I've actually found guys to be much easier to compliment.

Honey Babe, you might be right. When I think about it, the men in my life don't have that turn-of-mind, shall we call it...
It's the ego-encrusted types that get it wrong. I guess it's best a girl only compliment guys she knows and trusts.

Here's your coffee Hon.

I wouldnt know how to act to get a compliment. this is how bad it got for me. I went into a lumber yard a few years ago I was about 30 at the time the man told me to have my "son" pull around back and get the lumber "my son " as he called him was dh and he is a year older than me. I sure got a reality check that day. I cried and everything the thing is I didnt look old then now I look like im about 50 something or older I sure didnt get old gracfully

I've read a lot of your posts. I've found them to be smart, sensitive, and enjoyable to read.

Oh, when I have dinner with my Mom the waiter/waitress will usually think she's my date.

the original post is very true. It was very hard to learn how to take a compliment. But by complimenting others and paying attention to which responses made me feel the best I am learning how to respond.

I do compliment men who deserve it. If they think it's a flirt, well that's their problem. Most just say thank you.

I also smile at strangers. Especially old people. You should see their faces light up. It's awesome!

I was actually taught that it was impolite to "refuse" a compliment. You are disagreeing with the person giving that compliment. I think it was my girl scout leader. I was a very skinny girl and I lacked a lot of self confidence and until she taught me that I had SUCH a hard time with compliments. Not knowing what to say. It made it so easy to just say "Thank you". Then I actually started to believe people when they complimented me. It's kind of like if you smile and act happy, then you start to feel happy!!

That's funny - I do the same thing. Old people are so used to being treated as if they didn't exist. They smile so nicely in return, it makes my day.
