Thats the way my wife is too. She's actually the brains in this outfit going after masters then phd in another few.. And once in a while, she lets me pretend I run things around here
Those in the military serve for many reasons; patriotism, three squares a day, a sense of adventure.
I don't see the reasons being any different for women. For the most part, women that serve in the military aren't out there seeking justice for all of womankind. The days of the rabid women's libbers are mostly gone. Those that serve do so solely for personal reasons, just like any man.

No matter the couple, it takes a lot of cooperation
I fix my own car 9 out of 10 times...hubs can't do much mechanical work
I asked him the same question, he used some big words that I don't but the jest of it was they don't do it to serve their country first and foremost most do it to "escape" if you will at least the ones he has counseled and others for the college money. And yes some do it to prove that they can "make it" but patriotism for the women is not usually a primary reason. And you are right most libbers are there in theory only.

What unconventional reasons?

I think the same could be said for many men, yet for men it is characterized as being "off to see the world" or "adventuresome". I'm not sure how that ends up being a negative connotation for women.
chickened

So why are you going on about things you don't understand the reason for, then?
Thanks Mac.. btw.
I thank God above for the women that came before and fought so hard for the liberation of women.
I also feel pity for those shriveled, inferior souls who feel the need to try so hard to put down others.
I watched a movie once that I described here on the forum not long ago. It portrayed a plague that wiped out 95% of the male population. Those that were left were locked up for the safety of those who remained. Without males around.. the world found peace. Conflicts were ones women could solve at the bargaining table.. and when women were sucessful they were gifted with AI to have children.
Hmmmm...
I haven't read through all of the replies, but will add my 2 cents...
I am a female, retired from the Air Force, I was a crew chief on the mighty B-52, So obviously, I don't have a problem with women in the military. Obviously, as with civilian jobs too, the woman (or man) needs to be physically able to do the job that they are supposed to do. I don't agree with women in any career field (military or civilian) if they require others to do some aspects because they are physically unable.
Women flying aircraft? Again, only if they would be physically capable of controlling the aircraft if their autopilot went out. That can give a person a real workout.
Women in combat... this one I am not sure what to think about. On one hand, to say no would be kind of saying that womens lives are more important than mens, and I don't agree with that. But on the other hand, I worry that in combat a man would put himself in harms way trying to protect the women. SO I am on the fence with that one...
