Wood duck care?...

As for "not really allowed to have duck".............if your local town ordinance prohibits owning/keeping poultry, I would image you are out of luck. Somewhere along the way a neighbor is gonna let it be known. Also, the permit does state that a DEC official could come and check that you are complying with the requirements.

Yep no good there,
Federal Game Wardens always did my inspections at random. They dont mind waiting if you arent home either!! LOL
Came home many times with truck loads of Wardens sitting in the yard. They were always nice, but to the point and thorough.
In addition to just keeping the permit, you have to give you seller a copy of the transfer papers, keep a copy , mail in all the rest to the USDI. Then at the end of the year, you have to file an anual report of all deaths, purchases, hatches, sells, etc, basically show them your full year inventory. Not really a big deal, just a lot of paper work.

Also, I believe 1lpoock was referring to woodies not being a domestic duck with the xotic class, many class them that way... Just meaning, these arent barnyard pets.

MY GOD!!
I just went on there an looked, wood ducks $140 a pair, mandarins $95, are you freakin kidding me??
That's just sad to see folks getting ripped like that cause some one some where is buying them!!!

Lol, the efowl people seem nice though. I am calling them tomorrow about a possible sponsorship for my cancer foundation. If they go through with it, they will have to be allright.

sounds good hope they do, aparently they can afford it,

Hmm, so maybe I may actually be allowed to keep them? I don't really care about making any money off of them, but I will need to find a way to get rid of the offspring. That would be great if I am actually allowed to keep them and not have to worry about the warden taking them if I apply for the permit. I only have one pair of hooded mergansers, one pair of woods, and a couple mandarin pairs.

Yes these may be alright for you, just check into your local ordinaces and see. They will not be classed as barnyard style poultry, they will be looked more along the lines of Exotics like 1lpoock was saying.
All this paperwork is Federal, not Local, but you do have to be in compliance with all state and local laws in order for your Federal disposal permit to be valid.
If you get legal on them, I'll take all you can produce on those species. I have always been a sucker for mergansers especially. Once I get going full steam again with them all, I plan to get american and red breasted mergansers back as well as the hoodeds and smew.
Just let me know, will be glad to releave you of your baby burden!

Sounds good. My mergansers just started laying a few days ago (at least I think they are merganser eggs). I have not caught her in the box, but the male has been doing the breeding call for a couple months now. I left a message with my local florida fish and wildlife officer so I should find out something soon.
