wood ducks...

I'm from Battle Creek MI, yes in our state you need state permit to buy wood ducks, and a federal permit to sell them. As for mallards I contacted our permit specialist this spring when I bought some mallard ducklings, for mallards you don't need a permit but they must be toe clipped, seamless banded, or pinioned. I did seamless banding with size 11mm bands that I bought from the National Pigeon Association. What kinds of birds do you raise?

Basically thats it, migratory native birds. However, there are a few others including european wigeon, falcated duck, etc. There is a list that you can look at. Mallard Lane Farms has a direct link to it. Go to Mallardlanefarms.com and look at the right hand side, they'll have a category for permits and regulations, including that list.

So what do i need to own a wood duck? If i want to get wood ducks...ect ( just to own, not to sell) then i need a state permit???
And to sell i need that 3-186 form?

To own the seller gives you a 3-186 form. He keeps the original you get a copy and he sends in the other to U.S. fish and wildlife. To sell you have to apply for a permit ( about 75 dollars and be at least 21) that is when Fish and Wildlife gives you the forms to keep track of. Your state may require more licences or permits.Cant help you there. Every state is different.

Yep unfortunately here in Michigan you have to get the state permit before you can purchase any birds but you do not need the federal permit until you want to sell birds.
