Wood shavings for the ducks

Something i thaught was funny. Root beer is like black licorice in japan. They mostly all hate it. i told someone i met from japan what a root beer float was and him and his girlfriend gagged, They thaught A&W must be completely insane. it would be like black licorice and tonic water haha

Root beer is pretty much the only "dark" soda I can drink. Anything else, Dr. Pepper, Coke, Pepsi, etc. just taste like malted battery acid. I can drink "light" colored sodas like Fanta, Sprite, Ginger Ale, etc, just not the dark one. I guess my taste buds are racist or something.

Wow first time to hear about salty licorice! Still don’t like black licorice I can eat red though :)
Red Licorice is only called licorice in the UK and the US (don't know about Aus/NZ).
Real licorice must contain the extract from roots of the Liquorice-plant, which gives it the distinct taste. Salted licorice doesn't contain salt (Sodium-Chloride) but Ammonium-Chloride aka "Salmiac" which acts as a mild expectorant. Black licorice calms down my stomach and helps me against heartburn. - And i love the taste!

I don't think red licorice tastes anything like licorice, to me at least. Black has more of an anise taste. Very interesting to learn there is salty licorice.

Yeah that licorice with the ammonium chloride in it is pretty good, but it seems somewhat addictive. Thank goodness it's not common in the US. I start eating it then I'm in a cold sweat, next my mouth is raw, after that i start getting shakey, not sure what's after shakey, i run out by then.
Agree on the addictiveness and the raw mouth! :gig
But i never felt shaky or developed cold sweat, on the contrary, black licorice with "salt" calms me down. Ammonium-Chloride dilutes the blood vessels (like alcohol) and lower the blood pressure.

That Anise taste is the liquorice root. - Hmm, i have land now, maybe i should order some seeds? Make my own licorice… It is so expensive to order from the Netherlands!
