Worm on hens skin?!

Hello! I have a hen that has some sort of tan object poking out of her lower back. It looks like a little worm, but I'm honestly a little scared to go poking at it before researching. Anyone have an idea of what this may be?!?! Thanks!

It probably is the oil gland. They use it to keep their feathers gorgeous
