worming

how does everyone worm their chickens? and do they worm them before they eat them? also can you worm them when the hens are laying eggs?...what kind of wormer can you buy?....

Wazine is a good product and NO, don't eat the eggs or the chicken for several weeks after treatment. The product will specify a length of time. I need to worm mine again now while they are not laying eggs for consumption

I worm once every fall when laying tapers off and again in spring. I am not sure how often is reccomended but this has always worked fine for me. My birds are all healthy and do very well with that regimine.

I read on here that pumpkins are a good wormer. Is this really true? I hope it is. Our local Wal-mart reduced their pumpkins to 25 cents each so I got 40. Even if they don't take care of worms the chickens are enjoying them.

I can't remember who said the pumpkins, but I bought a dozen too and have been feeding them to the chickens and they are enjoying them. I would rather do it naturally, but if the only way is with the wormer, so be it.

I have been feeding mine some pumpkins also but they dont seem to like them as good as the goats like them..... I will try the wazine since mine are not laying right now either......also where you in Ga pumpkinpup? I am in Rome

I am trying an all natural route. I have been using apple cider vinegar and DE. I also bought hulled pumpkin seeds at the health food store - $3.50. Finally, a woman who lives up the road gave me a dozen pumpkins, just in time to compensate for the zuchini I no longer have available for feed.
HOWEVER, if I had a bazillion chickens and could not monitor their health on a one-to-one basis, I would do a mass worming as others have suggested. There's no one, single way to do this right - IMHO.

I believe it is the seeds of the pumpkin that are a natural dewormer BUT according to someone on the forum (and I can't remember who) they are only good for tapeworm...not sure though. :|
