Put the waterer up on a cinder block so it’s not sitting on the ground.

Agreed. I do that, it prevents anything to live in the hay under it. By the way OP, be prepared for what you find when you lift it up

I feel there is something in litter under waterer. Maggots are hatching out and crawling to waterer to drink. Waterer off groundn I use bricks and search litter for cause. Remove cause
