Thank you everyone for blowing up this thread!I always here about best chicken breeds to own but what about the worst chicken breeds you have had?
Any replies are appreciated.
Mine is the wellsummer it's very skittish and loud.
My hatchery Australorp is positively psychotic. She follows me around, making the weirdest sound I've ever heard a chicken make. It almost sounds like a long, drawn out honk that occasionally turns to a siren. She always seems to be bothered by something and has to express her displeasure with me. She often bullies my other hens and I'll find her on top of one of the younger ones pretty often, kicking and pecking at them. She wants to be head hen so badly, but my Barred Rock has that spot.as someone with a hatchery quality Black Australorp, I can say Australorps are a beautiful breed, and similar to Plymouth Rocks in temperament.
Lol this has to be the funniest comment on the threadRhode Island Red. the hens are meaner than usual, and the roosters are really rough breeders. first rooster I ever seen leave a bare patch on the wings. they are also the only chickens iv'e seen try to eat a live broiler bird.
second worst is Cornish Cross, because they are poorly bred, and very unhealthy. they get so fat that they can't even walk. they lay in the mud and get super dirty, and it's obvious because they've got white feathers. and the roosters are built like a brick wall. a stupid, muscular brick wall, that's more likely to crush a hen than mate with her.
Goodness! She sounds absolutely adorable! My hatchery Australorp is positively psychotic. She follows me around, making the weirdest sound I've ever heard a chicken make. But, I will say, her craziness makes her a great mother. She takes it so seriously and has successfully raised 3 clutches. No one gets to go near them or she will probably kill them and feed them to the babies lol.
The other cool thing is that she will fly up to my arm on command.
So, I agree with you that hatchery Australorps are cool, but I disagree with them having the temperament of BRs.
AgreedLol this has to be the funniest comment on the thread
Oh and orpingtons. Uhh....I don't really like white leghorns.
Why orpingtons?Oh and orpingtons. Uhh....
I pat my arm and say "up". But I would have to guess that me patting the arm is more what tips her off.Goodness! She sounds absolutely adorable!just curious, by command do you mean verbal or physical? I have then jump on my arm when I make eye contact over my arm. I’ve found that chickens have a hard time with verbal commands, so I was wondering!!
agreedWhy orpingtons?
