WORST DAY EVER... Our dog

Don't misunderstand I am NOT saying it isn't possible she bit him, but he had a deep gauge over his eye that was bleeding profusely but that is the only scratch.

Dog was spayed and had ALL shots when she was 6 months old. We got the tag, and I ~ThOUGHT~ it was 3 yr. Did not know it was only one. And either way dog should not jump on people, especially kids.

DD is mad that DS(again 8) did not tell 5yr old to STAY on porch while he went to get his nerf gun, but he said let me get my nerf gun and kid followed. Ds told the other child go back but 5 yr old just followed DS. Can't hardly be mad at either of them. %yr old came to our door and asked if my son could come to HIS house as they like to keep eye on him in their back yard. Can't hardly blame anyone EXCEPT dog.

The dog runs the show there, huh?

Sorry if that's snotty sounding, but dogs behave the way they are allowed/trained to behave. Kid + dog with potential to harm kid, even in rough play = ADULTS responsible. Not dog.

As much as I'd want it to be a scratch, it was probably a bite. I've been attacked by a dog before, had a cut under my eye, my nose, tried to rip off my upper lip and I had a cut inside the roof of my mouth. The owner kept saying it was a scratch, but it was a bite, the dog put its mouth over my face. They did agree to pay the hospital bills, in exchange to not call animal control and report the dog. It attacked me because I STOPPED petting it. I have never teased it before.
I hope you can come to an agreement with the other family, but honestly if that was my dog, I'd put it down.
I really really hope it's a scratch!!

edited to add - yes, I had a few nasty scars but those are now barely visible as I got older. I was attacked at age 9

I can kind of see that. The dog is DD's who says she loves dog but does NOT spend the time she needs to with dog. ~I~ feed dog and make DD give her water, like pulling teeth. Dog goes with us on trail rides and when we work on farm right with us, Otherwise, she is on line.

That line is also very dangerous.
Fence the kids out, not the dog in.
The kid came over all alone and unannounced? Sounds more like the parents are to blame. Who lets their kids just wander around??
Dog was in his yard, protecting his property, that is if it was an attack and not just a scratch. Depending on what your state says, the dog should be fine. Some states have zero tolerance and you might as well own a fish than any animal that can bite in those states. Others have a 2 or 3x chance, or after the 1st or 2nd time, you need to build a crazy cage for the dog to live in 24/7.

Yes I can see that. Just talked with DH , he already went to Animal control who said it all came down to what Doctor said if it was a scratch or bite, so waiting to hear what doc says.

Animal control told him if they view it as a bite we will need to quarantine.

I do have to wonder if putting dog down is right thing, and would be what neighbor wants.

No Difinetly would not blame his parents he was just to ask if my son could play then go BACK to their backyard so they could wattch him. Happened in less than 5 min from time 5yr old left their yard.

Well I hope everything turns out for the best, maybe your DD can take the dog to obedience/rehabilitation classes?? I really hope you guys can work it out whatever the outcome is...
quarantine is not so bad. Where I grew up they were much more aggressive when it came to dog bites.

Ignore my PM, just saw where you posted about animal control.
I think I would wait and see how things go, what the Dr thinks it is, before thinking about what to do with the dog.
All dogs have potential to be differant with people outside the family. At least you know and can watch her and think about it first.
