I've had a few dogs euthanized due to age or injury and for me, I have to be there holding or touching them in some way.
It's always been reassuringly peaceful for them when they go, and I guess I need to know that.
They've been by my side my entire life, so I feel like I need to be at their side for the rest of theirs.
But I completely understand and sympathize with those who don't wish to be there for that. It's an extremely heavy situation.
I would agree that if you could do a home vet visit, that would be the best. I wish we had that here for dogs. Where I live vets will come out to euthanize horses but not small animals.
My husband and I lost our first Jack Russell abruptly 6 years ago, and that was my husbands best friend and first dog of his own that he had ever lost. He was very upset.
A week later he went on his own and, to my surprise, picked up a new puppy. The puppy distracted him and helped take his mind off of the pain and loss, and kept him busy. I know this doesn't work for everyone, but it did for my husband. I don't grieve the same way that he does, but sometimes only a dog can help cope with the loss of a dog, I guess.
I just wanted to share in case you think it is right for your situation.
I'm praying for y'all and Vinnie.
