Would It Be Wrong...?

I, too am an antiquer, so I totally understand the draw of this unique piece of history becoming an end table. Being more than a touch chicken-crazy, I also understand the draw of returning a beautiful old piece to it's original purpose. So ... make it all work. She wants a neat, antique end table. You know where it will sit and what it has to blend into. So, refinish the outside to be just that - a beautiful piece of furniture for wherever she wants it to reside. Refinish the INSIDE to be what it's supposed to be, and everybody wins ... just be ready to hide until she gets over the initial shock!

As a conversation piece, you know someone is going to ask, "Did you ever incubate any eggs in here?" Wouldn't it be great if my wife could reply "Yes. Yes we did."
:lol::gig
...or you will say, "No, she wouldn't let me"

Seriously, looks like the mechanics are gone, heater/fan/etc.
If they were still there and you could get them to work...I'd say, yeah, go for it.
But having to add the stuff that would make it work, Nah fahgetaboutit!

I would not go nuts on refinishing it.
clean it up and leave the patina ..
Ditto Dat^^^

Someone earlier in the thread mention they thought the old incubators were powered by kerosene. I guess they were right. Here is an old incubator similar in style to mine...explains what all the holes are about. Looks like the lever on top may have been for egg turning. We'll never be able to fully restore it.

But it's still an incubator...
