Thanks everyone for the great advice! I figure I'll cut into it and add an external nest box. I'll look here and elsewhere for a simple design in which I can fit to this house (if I am able to get it of course).

Also, about where would I ideally want to place the roost bar?

I would place the nest boxes pretty low and the roost bar just above that.

Would I need to put an interior ramp on the inside for them to easily get out?

I would think that most chickens could get in and out of that coop/doghouse easily. They can jump that high. Unless they are a 8 week old Cornish X.
