Would this playhouse make a good coop?

I'll look into what flowers are safe and good for them and let you know.
Beaker, I "think" they will be big enough, but I'll have to get measurements to be sure. If not, I'll remove the containers, cover the holes with a board and just have two normal size laying boxes.

we just planteda herb garden for our the othe day....ours are in a temp coop right now and so we planted it under the coop in a raised brick bed so it will grow through the bottom and they can eat on it with out destroying it. I was thinking of adding the flower boxes next weekend. I found a cool blog that has a list of flowers to add (http://www.fresh-eggs-daily.com/2012/05/top-ten-flowers-your-chickens-will-love.html ). I havent decided which ones to do yet though...I will take some pics of our raised herb garden in a lil bit and post them. I think I am going to need to raise it one more brick though, it is taking to long to get to the bottom of the coop right now.

This is our temp coop and as you see we just did added a herb garden under the coop. It is working nicly so far, but i am thinking of raising it up one more block high so it will come through the floor quicker. It has been booming since the last time we washed the coop out...all of the poop makes for a wonderful fertilizer. I will be adding the flowers on the other side, hopefully next weekend.

Well, I planted some impatiens, no idea if they're harmful or not. Then again, the previous owner of my house planted a bunch of daffodils that showed up this spring and they're supposed to be poisonous to chickens. I let my chickens free range as much as I can and I've seen them pecking through the flowers looking for bugs. No harm done yet, I guess they don't think of flowers as food, which is good.

I'd like to find out more about how they researched that. Supposedly tomatoes are poisonous, according to some research, but I think that's debunked. People here feed their chickens tomatoes all the time. There have been a few threads about poisonous things, I only read thru them a little. Oh, and nice idea about the herbs. I bet they'll love it!

yes they do love that they have their own lil herb garden, but right now I have to cut them and poke it in their coop. I have never heard that about the tomatoes... My grandmas chickens always had tomatoes that she grew just for her chickens. Do you give your chickens a "salad"? if so what do you add into yours?

I give mine whatever I have leftovers of. Usually lettuce, carrots, tomatoes and things like that. I know, I was kind of shocked when I read that. There's plenty of people who feed tomatoes though, so I can't see how they're poisonous. I kind of question some of the research done on poisonous plants and chickens. They love tomatoes, and I think as long as they're fed in moderation, we won't have any problems.

Mine dont seem to like carrots, but eat most things I put in there. I personally havent given them any tomatoes yet, but I will have to make sure that i limit how much they get if we decide to give them any

I don't think there's much to worry about. There's many people on here who think those lists should be ignored. I think most chickens know instinctively what's safe to eat and what's not.

I read it was the actual tomato plant (leaves) that where poisonous, though my little chicks got out and obliterated my tomato plants and they are fine. I think that play house will make an adorable coop!
