I've used this method to construct greenhouses and hoophouses in the past, it is quick and easy. I seriously thought about using that method to build a run, but didn't because the security was just not there--just not sturdy enough for me. A determined dog would be in there in no time. I could see building a minimum security run or tractor, to use when you where around perhaps, but for an all-day run, it just isn't that much work to put posts in the ground, welded fencing on sides, w/ a skirt, and fencing or bird-netting over the top (depending on your predators).

I see two problems, personally. Security, like others have mentioned, and heat. I used to have commerciall greenhouses, and had one that looked a whole lot like this. Completely closed up, MAN it got hot. Completely sealed, on a hot August day, the PCV I used as a top crossmember got so hot it stretched, melted. You will definately need some major ventilation. I am going to use greenhouse hoops for my run when I get it started, and plan on using hardwarecloth instead of plastic. It will get major hot otherwise.

I agree with the heat problem. I have a portable garage for my tractor (real tractor, not chicken tractor). During the summer it will take your breath away walking into it if it has been closed.
If you have a mind to go this way, search portable garages. They have steel ribs and would be stronger. I think the 12x20 garage I have was around $300.00.

I am NOT planning on putting the plastic on for the chickens but insteading using hardware clothe to cover it

though I am thinking of making a real greenhouse like that for my garden at some point. get an early start before the TX heat kills off everything
