this work for ducks... it would almost be worth a try... you may have to cut and paste the site. It is a dog waterer, but the spills drain into the bottom. Only thing when they go to take a swim in their bowl it might tip over. What do you think. I like the idea... hmm maybe a person could use the idea, but modify it a bit.

That won't help much with water spills. They'll splash the water around way further than that device can catch. Water will drip from
their mouths as the walk away, they'll splash water on their backs (thus onto the ground) and fling water just for fun...

they will still make a mess.... unfortunately. They hold the water and food in their bills and fling it when they see fit. I have their food and water over mesh screens that drip into pans, and they still make a huge mess. Plus if you put food and water close together like that, they will mix them and make an even bigger mess.

I am building this new duck pen. I have been thinking of ways to make a separate area for their food and water. I was thinking of putting a nesting house and a feeding area on one end divided by a wall. Maybe put some kind of rubber maid container as a liner on one half of it, and have vinyl on the floor and walls. The container would be big enough for them to stand in as they drink from their water dish and eat. Then I could just slide it out to clean it. They would have to walk through a hole in the cut out wall to get to it, so it would be away from the rest of the pen. I imagines their food has to be pretty close to their water dish. Just trying to come up with a way to have less mess.
