I would love to tell everyone this breeder on BYC but it's not the right thing to do and it can cause problems. If you really want to know you can PM me and I will tell you who it is but I can't post it here.

Yes, I would complain. If I was the breeder and saw it had parasites I would have notified you and asked for shipping tobe postponed until I had treated it and gotten rid of them. I'd email them and ask for something to be done. Now you have to treat a bird that should have been healthy/parasite free!

Now if you bought it off the BYC auction...for sure post feedback. I would also worm , and check it out for diseases.....

X2 something has to be done to force this breeder to become responsible, and a sudden down turn in business may do it.

Poor bird!! Gawd, I know it must feel sooooo much better, after it's bath and de-bugging. I would worm it too.

Sad to think , that even a "well known" breeder, can let this happen to their birds.
Yes, I agree with you.....EVEN IF, one where to allow their birds to get this bad, on their own property....you would think, they would take the time to clean it up, before they ship out the birds. Even if you only paid, $10.00 for that bird + shipping fees...that bird should have still been clean, before shipping!

I mean, it's your breeding/farm name, going along with every bird one sells. Your birds, speak for you.... what you produce, and the care you have for your animals.
It's truly sad, that some don't have that built in "personal pride." It's also sad, they don't properly care, for the animals they keep.

I personally, make sure EVERY bird, that leaves my home...is clean, bug free, wormed, and HEALTHY. Even if it's my culls. Even if it's birds I'm culling, and taking to the local swaps/auctions. They are to be healthy and clean.

I guess everyone is different. (shrug)

At least this bird is now feeling better, and in very good hands. I know you're not happy with the transaction...but for the animal's sake, I'm glad you bought it.

Oh my gosh - that poor bird. Did you find it before it spread to the rest of your flock? Maybe you should send the breeder a bill!

Maybe they had no idea that their birds had bugs. What kind of bugs are those? They are really small, I've seen lice on a chicken so I know what those look like, but I'm not too sure I would see those unless, like you, I am giving a bath.

I didn't sell her the silkie BTW, reading my post it almost sounds like I did.

I try not to use chemicals unless absolutley necsessary, but now that I saw how little the bugs can be I guess I need to regularly.

An infestation THAT bad, there is no way someone misses it. That amount of bugs is a MAJOR problem and the condition of the bird in question is so poor sounding that it's a case of neglect at best.

In that case, I would complain.

But, what kind of bugs are those mites? That poor baby, I'm glad she's in good hands now.
