The only one who benefits from walking a duck on a leash or a stroller is the human. Ducks aren't designed for forced and confined parading around the yard or town. When I saw a woman walking a goose on a leash downtown several years ago, the poor animal looked absolutely miserable. Pavement, loud sounds from cars and gawking people, clothing and a harness that looked uncomfortable, if not harmful.

It was positively heartbreaking.

I know animals can be cute and cuddly and sweet, and we adore them and welcome the enjoyment of doing silly and fun things with them. But if ducks and other winged creatures were meant to be harnessed up and walked and paraded around in dresses and ruffles and bonnets and strollers, they wouldn't have been designed with wings and beaks and flappers for feet.

Free the ducks, people. FREE THE DUCKS!!!
