No these belong to some friends of ours, DH works with him and our kids are best friends, so its a delicate situation...

Well would you want to live in there? I sure wouldn't and my chickens wouldn't either. Why do people get animals and don't take care of them properly. And that is definitly not enough food and water for them, and don't even get me started on the housing. Are you saying it won't be shielded from the elements either. WOW! I hope you are just joking about this or maybe you plan on trying to rescue these poor babies, if you are not then find them new homes. PRONTO

Oh I am sorry Sparkles. I misread the post. I am sorry. It just makes me upset to see any animal living like that. I have called animal control on my Grandma's neighbors because of the living conditions of their dog and it was small at that. And I had to give my name or they wouldn't report it (didn't care if they knew I called, just was awkard to see them in the yard)

But I would have to say something because I am that type of person. Animals and kids come first in my book!

Once again I am sorry!

You may be seen as the chicken "expert". Offer suggestions as to how you can help design and build a better enclosure. Someone made these same suggestions to me about 10 years ago. Perhaps I was initially chagrined but now I have several large, decent enclosures when not free ranging.

I think that most people want to do the right thing but maybe don't know what's appropriate. Offer to help them enlarge the coop to something more reasonable and suggest the chicks need another larger feed tray.

The size seemed small to me and I wouldn't have a leaky roof and a gallon waterer would be appropriate. If you are careful and tactful, you can help these critters.

Iam very glad to here it isn't you!! Those birds need ALOT more space than they have... There is a way to educate people without hurting their feelings. Give them information and make a date to help them expand the coop.

Well, we told them for about 2 months that it was a bad idea to have 2 dogs running loose all day unsupervised with goats. They didnt listen till they came home and both pygmy kids' throats were ripped out and 2 adult goats had been harrassed to death. Told not to leave the rabbit hutch on the ground without an attached bottom, the dogs got all the rabbits too.
They are at our house all the time, they see how I raise my birds, the multiple runs and different pens for different weather, the fact that my dog has had the chicken eating beaten out of her, they know, but they think I am spoiling my animals and spending money that I shouldnt. They sold a 3 week old calf because they saw it eat some hay and sip some water so that must mean its ready to be off momma. We told them not to, they said it was to save on the pasture... oh but they kept the cow, who is the one who was going to eat the grass to begin with, so no pasture got saved and the calf probably died because it didnt want a bottle after being on momma for 3 weeks.
No common sense.

Some people just shouldn't own animals. Friends or not, we have to look out for the critters we confine or find confined. I'd tell them in no uncertain terms that they NEED a BIGGER pen NOW. Or they should get rid of 3/4 of them. The duck is going to create a wet, disease promoting atmosphere. And with the duck in the same pen, I doubt the poultry are getting all the water they need because the duck will dabble in the water all day long. Or better yet, based on their past lack of knowledge and plain old common sense, they should just get rid of them and save them the suffering in the long run. Sounds like these folks haven't hardly the sense to take care of themselves, let alone animals dependent on a minimum of care. I don't know them but I judge people on how they tend to their critters. These people I don't like.

Total agreement with RedHen! If they get mad then they AREN'T true friends to begin with. The poor little calf, that breaks my heart.

You're right, no common sense. This makes me so sad. It must eat at you since what you warned them about came true. I don't understand how some people think that animals have no feelings, rights nor are they deserving of the most basic necessities to live. Makes me want to cry.
