There is a park here where people dump ducks. They won't let me catch them, but when the weather warms I go in the early morning and gather eggs. I usually only find one egg a day, but it's a nice walk and I can collect about 5 fresh eggs to set at the same time. Care for them normally, turn them twice daily while you store. The first time years ago when I did it they were pure Pekin, 5 of 11 eggs hatched. Last year, 4 of 5 eggs hatched, mallard/pekin cross, there was only one Pekin hen there and she had a Mallard guarding her.
They normally lay over night, so if you get there about 8am, they'll be out if they're going to be. Predators look for them too. I've found the girls will lay in the same general area.
Last year I noticed other people doing the same thing at "my" pond. It's gotten competitive for these abandoned shore eggs!
