wow. $15 each for Coturnix Quail.

I went into the pet shop that I know sell quail coturnix and its $25.00 each male or female (Australia) but they have fizzle feathering... mind you though they were selling sawdust for about $24 dollars and I can get that at my local stock feed place for about $12.50

Wow....... I'm amazed at the high prices some will pay for a quail. This always catches my eye, and have been tryin to somewhat associate the prices with region, but it doesn't seem "regional".

The amazing part to me is there are several dozen breeders here in a small area for bobs and they just won't come down on their prices because they raise them for hunters and almost everyone they can get grown is pre sold if a hobbyist wants to raise them he has to pay for them the gambles and calis there just are'nt many here raising them I know of 2 other breeders whithin 50 miles of me

It is a regional thing but also feed is $16/50 pounds...and if you need a couple bags of it, you need to sell something to pay for it. I work on my colors and size on the coturnix, and then with the buttons I keep them in pairs and work on breeding them to the truest color possible. Don't we have a right to sell them at what they are worth?

You have a right to try to sell them for what you think they are worth, but the customer has a right to not buy too. Quail in general are pretty worthless around here; a place not far from here sells flight-conditioned Bobwhites to hunters for $3 each.

I'm not too worried about making money off of my quail. The only way I could make straight money would be to hatch quail and sell the chicks. That way i'm not paying for the chick's feed. But at the same time, I'm still paying for the feed that goes into the parents. so either way. Not much of a moneymaker. Lol. I find craigslist funny. Because I'm close-ish to New Orleans so I look at the Craigslists for my area and in New Orleans too. I wouldn't go to NO to buy anything. But ppl sometimes post on there that are close to me, even though it's in the NO category. Anyways, you have a lot of ppl in NO that just do it for pets and the like. Someone wanted $15 a piece for some bantams. That's insane. But they were 'pets' and so they jacked up the price. Likely, the ppl have no idea how much they're worth.

you can buy quail in our area for $2-$3.00 each, and 2-4 wks. for $1-2.00 . mostly coturnix's.

I can get corn, milo, or sratch grain for $8-$10 a bag here crumbles go for 12-$16 a bag $5 ea is high for bobs around here not sure what cots and buttons are bringing.

I found a website the other day and they were selling 'rare' breeds of quail. They had pairs of Mexican Speckled bobwhites being sold for £150!!! I thought that was a bit outrageous really, especially as other places I've seen sell them for £25. They had other breeds of quail such as Rain quail and Bush quail which were £200+ per pair. I don't think I would be buying any from there, lol
