I'm not quite sure why you felt the need to break so many open when they'd barely been incubating 4 days. I've been incubating eggs for a very long time and I don't even candle generally until day 7 at the very earliest. I never toss any until at least day 10.

It is the risk you take when you buy hatching eggs via any auction site or online seller........BYC as well as the rest. Shipping can jostle fertile eggs around to scramble them so they appear infertile.....I'm sorry but I don't think breaking them open to check for fertility after they've been incubating really can tell you much of anything.

I'm really sorry for what happened, it has happened to us (she wouldnt resolve the problem, just made it worse.), with silkie eggs but none of them were fertile! but we kept them in the incubator will about the 12 day just incase.

I think you should have waited a few more days before you cracked them open, becausee it could have take a few extra days for the eggs to show since they were shipped. It sometimes slows down the growth.

I'm sorry you experienced this, and I hope it never happens again! it really Stinks!

if I were you contact the lady and have het resolve the issue and try again, maybe try someone on here. There are a LOT of people on here who have amazing birds!!

Good Luck and keep us updated on what hatches and what happens with the Seller.

Thanks guys.

And I still have the 5 in the incuabator

Katy, I should have waited longer, But I can usually tell if somethings forming, And this person has a reputation, for selling infertile eggs. The last 2 people, with in 10 days Im pretty sure wrote how they could only got 1-3 chicks. Im pretty sure theres one egg forming in the bator as if for the others, they were not fertile.

Though I can this, I dont think Im going to buy eggs from ebay fora veryyyy long time. Only on BYC or craigslist.

I'm not sure why if this person had a reputation "for selling infertile eggs" you purchased from her? Again as previously mentioned shipping can make "the white spot" appear non fertile. The "white spot" is actually the nucleus of the single cell (egg) which becomes a blastocyst and enlarges slightly upon fertilization.

An experienced poultry keeping friend of ours told me to expect a hatch rate of around 50 percent from shipped eggs. His hatch rate for fresh eggs that are not shipped through the mail is close to 100 percent. The hatching eggs I went and picked up myself to slip under my broody this spring all hatched.

I don't know how anyone can know for sure whether eggs are fertile before they ship them. All they can know is whether the rooster has had access to those hens, not whether he's been doin' his job with all of them. Certainly, if the rooster is in with way too many hens that can have an adverse effect on fertility. Maybe that would be a good question to ask a seller before you buy?

Yeah, But it was not fertile, When I cracked it, No Vains starting like it should have been. I dont know... Im most likely just going to leave the 5 in the bator, and this spring go to the feed store and buy chicks.
