Wow, What a sad dissappointment :(

I think you jumped the gun a little too BUT, that's nothing against you I know how it is getting overly excited or disappointed about something and just going ahead and doing something you shouldn't, lol. Hopefully your other 5 are fertile though!! 5 would be better than none

I don't even give up on eggs at 50 hours and I've candled lots of eggs. My pics at 52 hours are barely noticeable and I'm shooting 300 lumens though the egg. From working on 60 hour old embryos for research, which involved cracking them open into a dish of saline as to not break the yolk , the blood ring can be very faint until about 72 hours.

Shipping can totally render eggs scrambled in it's self, especially this time of year. Plus, shiping can delay the onset of development. A 50 hours incubated egg that is 1 day old out from under the hen will often be hours ahead of an 50 hr incubated egg that was chilled, jostled, and shipped.

Next time, do let them go to day 10 first. Many of the posts before me have hit on key points.

I both buy and sell on ebay, and bidbird once. I can say if Im getting a 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs Im having a happy day! And beofre I sell any eggs I know my hatch rate and am honest enough to say it. They only time I got screwed was here buying off BYC! So...take the replacement eggs and hope for the best, but much better if you can get locally...or honestly...its better to buy chicks!

I'm sorry for your experience, but I would say don't give up. I've bought eggs on eBay twice, and both times my hatch rates were excellent, 90% and 100% respectively. Both times the eggs were shipped from back East (I'm in the West), and the second time the eggs were held up by the post office an extra day due to the 4th of July holiday. I used a broody hen the first time and my home-made incubator the second time. I'm not saying any of this to gloat, but to encourage you that sometimes the outcome just appears to be the luck of the draw. You should absolutely ask the seller for a replacement, wipe your tears, and try again!

I even agree with the spammer, you jumped the gun. Twice, having seen the other thread. One of the hardest things to learn about incubating is patience. The second hardest is to leave the eggs alone. Don't mess with them.

Try to wait until day 10 to candle, I know it isn't easy but do it! I have found that the less I handle the eggs the better the hatch goes. And a thorough hand scrubbing before and after I touch them is required for me. I don't want any bacteria roaming around.

Also, highlighted above, you say the seller has a reputation for selling infertile eggs - so WHY did you buy their eggs????????

Off-topic, but wouldn't it be hilarious if we really did reel-in a spammer and make them a chicken-addict like the rest of us? It's going to happen, I just know it!!
