it is definately a white. Not entirely sure the sex yet. Look for pointy saddle feathers, those are the first things I usually look for to confirm. Wattles will grow first on the males, too. If your black silver is male, he should get some silver saddle feathers. The 2 BBS Silver little ones are 5 weeks yesterday. My thoughts are the Black Silver 'Solo' is a boy with that much coloring coming in so soon. The Splash/White I'm stumped for gender on this one still. My mind says male but secretly wishing female because the wife has named it 'Princess' and we can't have it getting beat up at school.
@Bantambird what's your thoughts on gender?
Is the white a white, or still unsure yet?

Both my males and female can get pretty decent silver on their necks, I have been aiming for that for years so show me the backs. If there is any silver on the saddle/cushion area, then it is male. If it is black, more likely female. Every once in a while, I get a male with less desirable saddle feathers, but I have been eating most of those.
Ok, I'll get more pics today and I agree, I'm getting nicer copper on the grow outs now and want to keep this in my lines. Both my males and female can get pretty decent silver on their necks, I have been aiming for that for years so show me the backs.
Thank you so much for the info.If there is any silver on the saddle/cushion area, then it is male. If it is black, more likely female. Every once in a while, I get a male with less desirable saddle feathers, but I have been eating most of those.
Pictures when they hatch! Do you know what causes the matte vs shiny? Not that it matters.Set another 8 of Ravens eggs under Dbl Yellow today. She gives me some pretty cool looking eggs so I'm anxious to see what these hatch out.
Some have a dull matte finish where others are shiny full color and then some lay with a bloom giving them a purpleish cast to them.

All broodys have eggs now, with Coppers hatch date this Friday of Olive Eggers.
No I don't technically. And she's the first one I've had that throws both. I would like to learn the genetics of it, tho.Pictures when they hatch! Do you know what causes the matte vs shiny? Not that it matters.
Hm and I thought maybe diet related lol guess not. It’s all complicated genetic stuff. Meanwhile I’m like “whatever color the hens ears are, that’s the color of the egg”No I don't technically. And she's the first one I've had that throws both. I would like to learn the genetics of it, tho.
Hopefully someone much more experienced can shed light on the egg...
I do know that duller, matte finish is less desired for SOP. They want a shiny gloss with complete color thru out the egg, so I'm not there yet.
By only hatching from my darkest layers to a rooster that came from a dark egg, the eggs will get darker with each generation.
Joannie, Angels and Betty's pullets are close to POL, so game time is here. If they lay darker than their mothers this tells me Kong came from a dark egg.
All sciency and stuff...![]()
