Wrath's Marans

To expand on that a bit. I use a purple band (right leg) on Joannie my OG F0. Her progeny F1 I'll band Purple/other color on left leg. F2 grandbabies I go back to right leg with purple/other but try to switch 2nd color so that they're not the same as F2s. Haven't gone further yet to get confused but I've only lost one main band on one of the boys since starting just recently in fact but there's 4 white (Raven) and 2 yellow (momma) so process of elimination worked.

That was easy to figure out just by noticing a single odd band and process of elimination (color head count)

If anyone has suggestions or a different easier way I'm open to ideas. But this has worked so far. Of course, I keep records of all my birds also so it's a quick look to see who's who also.
Thank you! Right now I can tell the difference between my 2 Isabel ameraucanas and my 2 BCMs, but with all the wheaten ladies growing out by spring I'll be pulling my hair out trying to figure out what's what, lol

Oh I know. 🤣 Even some of my older hens when they get in the nest box and hunker down and I'm stalking, I'm all "who are you?" So then I reach under to see the leg band but by then, most of the time I can almost guess by who bit me or who didn't before seeing the band.

More process of elimination..
If she latches on and don't let go "Hi, Copper !!" 🤗

Of my 21 hens I can identify them all except for the two Gold Laced Wyandottes, Goldie and Lacy. When they were younger I could tell because their lacing looked different on their tails. Then they both molted and dropped their tails at the same time.

One eventually went broody I realized that I was no longer getting any long torpedo shaped eggs Lacy was known for laying so I banned the broody with a zip tie for future identification. Once she weaned her chicks and started laying again the torpedo eggs confirmed that she was Lacy

I only have one green egg layer. Sweetie Pie is a Wyandotte Easter Egger mix. Her egg is more of a mint green. Plus she's older now so I only get a couple in spring. Don't know if she will lay this year??

I may have to look into some olive egg layers myself. I love that shade.

I'm definitely going to hatch a few more from both Esther my EE and Christy at some point this Spring.
