Speaking of Joannie, she gave me a fright today. Spent 20 minutes looking for her, dreading a rat had gotten her somehow.

Turns out she escaped to the welsummer pen through a tiny gap in the corner of the mesh between the two pens. She was stuck between the mesh and the Wellies’ drinker which hangs from it. Just saw her little tail sticking out, not moving, but finally found her and got her home.

Scary thoughts go back to Raven. She was laying age and it was super cold out, and came up missing...
Thought for sure a hawk grabbed her with no sign anywhere of anything. Searched and searched.

10 days later I was moving some sheets of plywood in the barn and found a pile of poo, (odd thought).... looked left and there she was trapped between the plywood and a door slab, laying on the concrete, no food, no water, and no sign of eggs unless she was eating them. She was about 3' from a small coop I clean everyday and I never heard her.
I was glad to have her back but beat myself up something fierce for not searching more.

I'm not a good judge of that. Haven't paid close enough attention to eye color. Seems like one day they're blue, the next orange but there has to be a transition of some sort o would think. I've got some brown eyes I'm seeing now but again, kind of letting them grow out to be sure.

My understanding tho, in the SOP brown is accepted but not desired and black is a DQ.

Ah, I never considered the different standard for eye colour. The UK one doesn’t talk about brown eyes but that might only occur often in Black Coppers. I’ll keep my eye on her to see what happens.

Moved the Silvers and Legbar littles over today into Poppy's coop.. they've been free ranging together so integrating should be pretty calm.

And that freed up their little coop for the other Marans to take over.
