Hey guys! I was given some duck eggs and hatched them. I was told they were Cayuga. They're about three weeks old, losing their baby fluff and gaining some real feathers. I've been letting them swim in the tub a few times a week to help get rid of the loose baby fluff and I've noticed some of the babies have wrinkly faces. Google brought up Muscovy ducks of course when I googled "duckling with wrinkly face."

Not everyone has a wrinkly face or what appears to be a bald spot. But now I'm wondering if they're Cayuga or Muscovy or if this is even normal.

I have this YouTube video I took of the ducklings. Idk if their faces are like this from shedding or if they're maybe Muscovy.

I got the best picture I could get too.

Thanks in advance!

Super adorable little babies, the pitter patter of their little feet!!! :love
I agree with the others, definitely look like cayugas. The wrinkling is probably just their down going through awkward stages of feathering!
This is unrelated to your question, but are you supplementing any niacin to their food? A couple of the littles look a tiny bit pigeon toed. Adding a little nutritional yeast to their feed will help their legs stay strong

I absolutely love the 'twaptwaptwap' sound their feet make in the tub! :lau

They are definitely Cayuga, and the 'wrinkles' may just be as you suspect them losing the baby fluff and the real feathers coming in.

It is my favorite!! It makes it sound like they're on a mission 😂 so serious sounding!

Thank you though! That makes me feel better.

I've been putting some brewers yeast in their food but not with every filling of their feeder. I got duck food for them (Purina brand) but thank you for letting me know!! I'll add some more to their food. They just got a food refill in their bowl.

It's my first time with ducks so I'm unsure what to look for.

About a tbsp or just over of brewers yeast per cup of food is ideal, some babies just benefit from a little extra niacin!
I had it with one of my girls, she became pigeon toed pretty early on and needed a little extra niacin

Signs they may be needing a little extra include:
Toes pointing inwards
Tripping over or stepping on their feet
Laying down a lot
Becoming more tired or lethargic

Your babies seem pretty healthy!! And active. I just thought I'd offer the advice to be on the safe side, so you know what to look for :)

I appreciate it so much!! Sorry about the delay - I had to get to work but I wanted to respond and let you know that I definitely, DEFINITELY, appreciate you letting me know! I want to make sure everything's okay with them so knowing that information helps. 💜
