Hi ,

I went to pick up my new hen that I have seen when she was about a few months old , now today went to pick her up and she straight away began to scream as if I was gonna kill the B*** , and yes she is MEAN , my order : LIGHT SUSSEX HEN , her behavior ? far from a sussex !
her outlook ? close to a delaware !!! I have never owned a delaware before but I did have sussex , now here is a desription of this annoying creature :
neck has specks of black , body is deep like a sussex but breast does not stick out like a sussex ( have not been able to take a picture as this chicken is so annoying we locked her up in the dark here ) , so to continue : white body type just like both breeds , but about the tale I notice just a little bit of black ( however that probably doesn't say much ) she has a white and black tale short but why do i think about the delaware ?

Years ago I had a neighbur with that breed , every time we played outside that chicken began to make noise as if you just killed her baby ! holding the chicken results in the same vulume of noise !
Even when we covered her head due thinking she just suffered from being stressed out she was still screaming bloody murder ! there is no way of keeping this animal quite , also when we grabbed her GENTLY out of her box to get moved to the quarantain ? she began to peck and attack like a crazy disturbed animal that was in distress ! we are simply afraid to even MOVE around that annoying animal because when I was taking some things inside she again screamed and screamed and I know how a sussex usually sounds , this sound is far from a sussex hen , a sussex is noisy usually but never does it scream like this (yes I wrote scream ) , also I find the sounds of sussex quite familiar to every purchased hen and she doesn't look just a BIT like that .
Now being already passed midnight I assumed the chicken was asleep so all the things we left outside and have to be taken inside I just went to take it silently but when opening the door ? that hen screams and screams again from bloody murder ! she is acting like a boss , not scared at all altough approached her to fatch her and to put her into the garage as I still want to have SOME peace with the people living here she attacked me first when I had my hands around her wings and again putted the volume open , now she was suddenly afraid and went to hide inside the little house but kept on going with the noise . we texted the seller already during the day ( evening ) to tell our doubts and all he replied was that he was sure he did not made a mistake and that he keeps his delawares always in another coop , another text earlier he claimed it was for sure a sussex because he did not even own delawares . The idea that this is a delaware comes from my daughter that remembers perfectly what a delaware hen because she is the victim of getting bullied when she was playing in one of our neighbours yard by a DELAWARE . I know this sounds a bit weird to be so vicious towards a chicken but she is not cutting us some slack and does not act like a sussex at all , so can anyone who owns delawares or one breed that acts similar tell me what I might be dealing with here and either confirm or not we have a sussex or a delaware ??? or ??? what is this ? and how do I shut that animal up ??? I can post a picture in the morning !

Give her some time to settle in to her new home or return her.
Look forward to seeing what she looks like.

trying again to sneak outside to gather the stuff we left out , praying this creature shuts up for once and if not ( my gut says out loud its NOT a sussex ) you can bet my famiily is gonna get a nice delaware whatever kind of cruel chickensoup

Nothing you have shared is sufficient to ID the breed unfortunately. Yes, a photo would be helpful. Behavior described could occur just as easily in either breed. Behavior is more linked to management than breed - a normally docile breed raised in a way that does not foster people friendly behavior will behave accordingly. What color are the legs of the bird in question?

well every sussex hen I bought did never attack , nor scream so noisy like this chicken and the sound is soooooo noisy i am sure she is NOT a sussex but what it is ? no clue besides thinking or keeping in mind we talk about the delaware ... other chickens are quite at night and sertainly do not attack at all

just yellowish like a sussex hen too

I got two older girls from an established flock because one of them bullying smaller birds. When I first brought them home one of them made the most awful noises. (I even joked they really got rid of her because she never shut up.) She did eventually quiet down and now that I have more chicken experience I realize she was calling her old flock. She was head hen here and I'm guessing she always was.
Maybe your girl is looking for her old flockmates.

Birds probably reflecting on your actions you seemed pretty freaked out an annoyed as well lol.
As far as breed you seem to know What you were after and she wasn't that and you got her anyway so it is What it is now (but post picture here when you can so folks can help a bit more) just give her some time to settle in thats probably all that hen needs.

Do you have her segregated from your existing flock? If you do- she's probably scared to death wondering where her pals went. If you don't- she's probably scared to death wondering who all these new chickens are.

Give her some time as the other posters said and I'm sure she will come around :) if someone scooped you up and put you in a new place with new people and said "deal with it" you'd be squawking too ;)
