I also found this today on her- its near her tail and looks like a little tube of skin with feathers growing out the top of it.. She hates it when I touch it?? I've never seen anything like this- do you know if I should be worried??

Another question- sorry, as you know she is a silver Birchen silkie. Because her neck is twisted, the feathers on her neck ALL bend to the left, leaving the silver frill falling all to one side instead of evenly around her neck. ( does this make sense?) I'm just wondering have the feathers shifted position because of her neck twist? And will they slowly move back to where they should be making that lovely pattern, or will they never surround her neck again? Another reason I ask is I'm still wondering if her head is twisting the right way.... I'm sure she wouldn't turn it the wrong way but I'm not sure..
Thank you Deb :)

Oh I forgot to tell you, she is STANDING!!!!!! Still wobbling around in circles but considering she s been in a box for 5 weeks I think this is great...... Today whilst on the grass she tried sooo hard to untwist her neck, shaking it and moving it up and down- god love her, but unfortunately it just stayed to the side :( she wobbled around in circles and then stood really TALL. :) and stayed standing for a few minutes... Then sat again lol.. But she is definitely trying, and I'm positive she has gained weight. Not heaps but she definitely doesn't feel as boney to me. I will weigh her in morning before a feed and continue each week to see...

I really can't make the last picture out, it's hard to tell what it is.

If she can get her neck to straighten out, the feathers will follow, if anything when she molts it will help..

ALRIGHT, The standing is good, she's getting strength That is really great, remember she's not going to do everything in one day, she's the chicken that likes to take baby steps, so just standing for 2 seconds is a HUGE accomplishment for her. That's GREAT to HEAR..

The weighing thing SOUNDS like a great plan, it will give you an idea as well as her progress and maybe give more hopes. If she gains weight consider her to make some progress. That's what I would do.

So great to hear and see she's desparately trying to SNAP out of this. WOO HOOOOOO

Ok more GREAT news this morning, after her feed I put her in grass. Yes she stood and wobbled around in circles BUT she also tried to Stretch one of her legs and wing out. You know how chickens stretch their leg straggly out the back if them and their wing in same side stretches out too?? Well that's what she did- she nearly fell over but she tried lol... Baby steps yes, but each day she is getting a fraction stronger . This girl just wows me :)
Oh also I think she has been in moulting this whole time. She has many many new feathers and heaps that are shedding. Maybe this has prolonged her recovery? I know moulting takes it out if them, so to be sick as well, would be very very draining on her..

Thank you for staying untouched with me during this :) your a lovely person & I truly thank you xx

All through this I have never asked you about yourself or your chickens ( sorry)
How many chickens do you have, what breeds?? Have you ever treated wry neck yourself? Do you show them... I'd love to see them :)
I'd love to hear about YOU!!!

Hi again, just wanted to ask about that little tube of skin I found near my hens tail. ( the one in pic you couldn't see probably) the reason I ask is that if I touch it it makes her lift, drop and shake ear tail while moving around in circles?? I'm just wondering if its a gland or something as she kina dances while shaking her tail if I touch it. Do all chickens have this? The more I look and touch it m starting to think its suppose to be there- but I've never noticed it ina chicken before. I'm gong to look at my other chooks tomorrow o see if they have it.

Also I'm really worried about her neck :( she is trying soooo hard to pull it forward but just can't :( it's like it's locked at the base and needs to be unlocked. Do you think she will be able to eventually bring it forward? Like what are her chances after all this time? I feel like her neck needs to be lifted straight up like stretched and unlocked at the base. Like lifting I over what ever its caught on. I'm probably not making sense - sorry.. She just keeps pulling it backwards when she tries to move it. And keeps shaking her head, like its caught :(
I'm wondering if I should take her to vet for an ex ray of her neck- to see if it is intact being brought forward the correct way.....

LOL, THAT IS GREAT NEWS!!! It's ok that she falls over, she still doesn't have the strength yet but definitely a plus for trying. LOL.

Moulting is a possiblity, that would delay the progress. WOOO HOOO

I'm with you until the end, End meaning fulll recovery...

I have WAY to many chickens. LOL I have over 200 maybe close to 250 now that 85 percent of my girls went broody and are desparate to have a baby. I have Silkies, Cochins, Call ducks, Quails. you can see most of them on my website www.lwbarnhouse.com. Right now I have 25 call ducks in my incubator and 5 Mille Flue Cochins..

Having Silkies I most definitely have had to deal with Wry neck, Silkies are prone to this and the reason being is because they have there brain's laying on top of there skulls. So one blow to the head, BOOM they are down for the count but thank you for asking.. LOL

No I don't show mine, I have a fear of them catching a disease or virus. But I do enjoy hearing others and seeing others hatching out babies from my flock..
