Wry Neck - Confused about treatment

Pics
Ohh thanks Chiqita, yes Poor Licorice has been unwell for a long time :( this is her 9 week of treatment. I'm fortunate to have just gotten some prednisone so fingers x this is just what she needs to help get over this last hurdle.
Licorice has shown me just outrage strength and determination through these last 8 weeks. There was a morning where I thought she wasn't going to make it and I actually stopped force feeding her. 24 hours later when she was still with me- I got the electrolytes out and started hydrating and feeding her. She hasn't looked back since. She could stand in the beginning and actually needed towels rolled up around her to stop her rolling over. She was one very sick hen... Today she is walking ( in circles ) stretching, eating well, shaking , clucking and is awake all day :) she just cat shake this crook out if her neck.. Thank you for showing on concern & THANKYOU for caring. I think Licorice is remarkable even at this stage. She definitely has the will to live!!! And I will do everything I can to get her through this.. Se needs to be running with her flock. One day soon I hope that will be her reality...
Well today is her first day on the Prednisone so lets all send good vibes to Licorice and ray this helps...

Thank you to everyone who has offered advice and opinions during this journey Licorice & I are on.
Xxxx

Lori where are you???????????????????????
I'm here, I haven't responded because I see you were getting some advice from someone else, so I figured I would kick back for a while to see how things went before I intervened again. I didn't want to cause more confusions and have you end up given that Precious hen 15 thousands things a day from several people just to try and cure her problem. LOL...

So I figured I would stay out of it for a while see how things went before I give my suggestion on the next task for her... How is she doing today?

Aww please don't feel like that! You have been there from the start for me & I appreciate your advice & opinion.. I want to know you agree or disagree with what I am doing.
Today is day 3 on the Prednisone. She is getting 1/4 of a 5 mg pill twice a day for 7 days, then ill start weaning her off it. She is doing ok. I finally worked out why she is so figgity while eating. Remember how I said she stretches and pushes with her kegs when eating? Well it's because she's not using the neck to reach her food. In fact she uses her whole body to lunge forward to reach the bowl of food.. And you know how chickens move their heads in a jerky motion? Well she is doing that with her head now but just in that one side. So I think she has slightly more movement in her neck. Not a lot but a little. She'll turn her head and look UP towards the sky and will turn it slightly sideways to see what's going on.. I'm hoping this prednisone will do the trick.. Thats all she is getting now plus a vitamin b complex daily.. I was giving the aspirin to her at the lunchtime feed when she doesn't get the prednisone. What do you think? Am I doing the right thing??
Alan Stanford is the one that worked out her treatment plan for the prednisone. So I'm praying this is what she needs.
Other than that she is in great spirits.. She is one tough cookie I know that..
She hasn't committed or brought up anything for 4 days now- so that's great news. I think the problem their was she was eating too much too fast.. She eats as though its her last meal every feed :( she is a funny little thing when she sees the food bowl- soo excited and so un coordinated its beginning to be a challenge holding her to eat. She wriggles & stretches and leans and lunges all over the place trying to get to the food.
I ll weigh her again today and hopefully she has gained some weight..

Please stay in touch and please don't step back.. I missed you and want to hear what you have to say..

That's great to hear, she sure is a fighter. I hope she has gained some weight, that would be GREAT to here. This way you know she's on the right track.

Since you are giving her the bayer and prednisone, it's going to be hard to say which one is really doing the job. She may only need one or the other. So since you think the "alan Stanford" way is working perhaps you should stop with the bayer and just continue with the rest.

Since she's not bringing up the food anymore, that's a good sign, you should see a weight gain. Keep us posted thanks.. Great to hear from you again...

Thanks Lori, I'm only giving her the Prednisone. 2times a day.. I was giving the aspirin before I got the prednisone... Poor girl has had just about every pill you can find.. So no just this one now.
She is still bringing up her food :( and her crop isn't emptying properly again :( should I be doing anything??? I massage her crop but that's all. Am I suppose to still feed her in morning if she still has food in her crop??? Poor girl!!!! She eats as though she is starving.. So I have been giving her a little pls massaging her crop.
The top of her head is sensitive- as she doesn't like me touching her there... Anyways we are still on this journey so I will write again soon.
Thanks Lori xx

Try this, give her food every other day and the liquid diet receipt food on the opposite days. If she still brings up her food, then stop the food all together and just give her the liquid diet food for a few days see if she can just hold down the liquid. The liquid diet food should help push any left over food and help empty that crop. Don't worry if her poop gets really watery it should because with the liquid food there's nothing to help get it solid.. Just make sure when you give her the liquid diet that her crop is absolutely full..

Silkies don't like there heads messed with, not even to cut or trim there head feathers. My guess is because of the fact that they have there brains right underneath that skin so it' probably feels weird. LOL

I'm struggling right now, Just found my black silkie rooster with both eyes completely shut and a swelled up head. One of my paint roosters got into his coop, trying to get his girls and they went at it. The paint has his own girls but they went broody for the time being. GRRRRRR Messed him up pretty good.

Thanks Lori, I will give it a try. What was the liquid diet again?? I can scroll back through to get it.
Her crop is half full this morning :( but no vomit on her wing.. In not sure if that's good or not.... Ill try what you said.
Oh no!! In sorry about your roosters :( I've never heard if them hurting each other like this. But I've never owned a rooster. Can you help the poor fella who got hurt?? I'm think if you and seeding good vibes your way.. So sorry xxxxx

Blue Kote and neosporin work winders for roosters who get beat up.
Good luck with your naughty boys.
