8 week old silkie I hatched from a breeder’s egg. It has suffered from wry neck off and one for a month. It is eating and drinking and tolerating vitamin E. She will get better and then worse and I haven’t stopped treatment. See video. Her neck is very long.

This morning her eye is swollen shut from being in shavings. My plan is to gently clean with warm water and put her back with no shavings on coop floor. She is with the chicks she grew up with in a separate pen and they do not bully her, hurt her, and allow her to eat. I am debating complete separation because I think she needs others to fight.

Here is how I treat:

400 mu human vitamin E gel caps with selenium daily. I open her beak and apply the gel directly.
Poultry cell drench directly by dipping her beak.
I ordered the goat E in the syringe to make it easier because the pills are sticky.

What else can I do? I tried to keep her head up on a towel, box, etc. but she gets scared and doesn’t want to stay in the position. I am so sad that nothing seems to get rid of this.

Pic of me holding her head to give medicine

Picture of the chick right before first symptoms.

I had an Ameraucana develop wry neck this past spring at around 6-7 weeks. I crushed a 1/4 tablet of selenium in a teaspoon and added the vitamin E to it along with a couple drops of water and left it to dissolve the selenium. Then I used an eye dropper to give it to my chick. Did it twice a day. I kept him separated from the others (initially in a clear plastic tote with chicken wire for a lid while indoors and then a dog crate once moved outdoors) not just because of safety, but also to minimize stress which makes wry neck worse.

After a couple weeks I was loosing hope and patience. I started taking him outside to free range in the grass when it was sunny and warm. That seemed to help a lot too. It took 4 weeks of treatment before his symptoms went away. It is important to keep giving the vitamins for a week after symptoms disappear to prevent them from returning.

Good luck!
